Ok, we have all head of so many diet myth's over the years and this one I can not seen to figure out if it is a myth or a fact. Ok, does anybody know if you eat a meal like dinner then go lie down will you be heavier in the morning and all of the food you ate last night will be turned in and stored as fat in your body? If anybody can clear it up or help me out there or know the answer it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and support.

Myth. You can probably search MFP by using the "search" above, since I've seen a few posts on this.

Eat whenever you want, it doesn't matter.

Your body doesn't stop when you go to bed. It keeps working. Your body burns calories 24/7. If it stopped, you'd be dead.
  • Very old myth!

Dr. Barry Spears (of the Zone diet) actually recommends a 40/30/30 (% of calories from carbs, protein, and healthy fats, respectively) before one goes to bed in order to keep insulin levels as steady as possible even while asleep.

It really doesn't matter when you eat or how close to bed time. Calories are calories and you digest food and burn calories even when sleeping.

Myth. Makes no difference when you eat. It's the total calorie count for the day that matters.

if you are active then your metabolism is high and the food will burn up quicker than in a less active person. I tend to eat several hours before I go to bed but there are plenty of days that I eat right before I go to bed. I don't notice a huge difference. Sure if you eat at 5 pm and go to bed and sleep until 8 am the next day you will be lighter than if you eat at 11pm and get up at 5am but as soon as you put food in your body you will weigh more. It totally depends on the amount of food that you are putting in your body too. If you eat what you need your body will use it all up if you overeat you won't burn it all off.
I think sometimes we over think everything and stress over every little detail. Eat. Sleep. and if you feel heavy, change something next time! : )

Charity pretty much said anything that I could say. The only thing I could add is that if you are used to eating 5 hours before bed you would normally burn more calories since during waking hours you burn more calories then you are a sleep. So if you do happen to have a large meal before bed you could weigh more than you would if you ate at your normal time.

As for it being stored as fat that would only be possible if you were in a calorie surplus.

With that being said I personally believe that calories in vs calories out is 10 times more important than caloric timing when it comes to losing weight.
