FODMAP Diet for IBS

Has anyone else tried the FODMAP elimination diet for IBS? I have put it off for a long time because so many of the foods they tell you to eliminate are ones that I eat every day. But I've finally bit the bullet and have decided to try it for 3 weeks or so. Has anyone else tried it? What did you eat? So far it seems like I eat a lot of rice and meat. Not the most weight loss friendly items!
For those of you who have never heard of the FODMAP diet, here's the website I'm using:

Thanks for your help everyone.

I find a lack of carbs is what gets me! I have to work Very hard to have a balanced diet, it's the only thing that helps. balance & routine! If I have one "bad" day, not eating properly, I'll be in severe pain!!
But it's different things that trigger different peoples IBS. so you might just have to try things until you find what works for you. like figure out what foods trigger you & cut them out..
good luck!0 -
I'vet ried IBS diets... IBS cookbooks...
The only thing I found that works for managing IBS is to figure out what you can and can't eat yourself. It's an arduous process, but worth it in the end. For me, turns out it didn't matter as much WHAT I ate (Except trans fats wreck me...) as much as how MUCH I ate. if I stay under 300cal/meal I can survive.0 -
The FODMAPs Diet works for me. I started it after the VA ran every test imaginable (many that no one would care to repeat) for over a year. Their only solution was Loperamide HCL (industrial strength Imodium). But it only treats the symptom.
To make it work, you have to be serious - strictly follow the diet and eliminate all the possible carbohydrate offenders, then when your symptoms are resolved, slowly add in other foods. There are many foods that your gut may not digest properly. You have to cut back to the foods do not cause your IBS symptoms and then add in new foods one at a time to see the reaction. For me it was fructose malabsorbtion and some lactose intolerance.
Its not a short easy process, but the final result is well worth the effort. The best book that I have found to date is "IBS - Free At Last." Good Luck!0 -
ugh i can't cut back on all that. i guess i will live with an unhappy gut. plus, some things irritate me (like BAGELS, wtf) and some don't (extra spicy Indian food and this certain brand of salsa).0

I've been trying this week: I made a huge pot of brown rice with pork and have been eating it all week- really because I've been so busy and I don't know what else I can eat! I've also been eating either eggs or buckwheat for breakfast. It's so bland- It's terrible! My stomach has felt better though-
KenCarden- How long did you strictly follow the diet for?0
