Waist/Hip Measurement Tips?

The only reason I've never kept track of my measurements is because I really don't know what I'm doing! I have a flexible measuring tape that I use, but it seems that even within one day I get vastly different measurements, and I'm 99% sure it's me not measuring properly. Could anyone provide tips on exactly how/where each one is supposed to be done? Also, how often should they be taken? Thanks a bunch!

My trainer recommends once a month for measurements. The biggest key is consistency in your measurements. So once you take a measurement in a certain place, you need to use that place to measure all the time. I personally measure my biceps, underarms, bust, waist (1" above my belly button) and my hips. Thighs and calves as well.

And make sure you have good posture when taking your measurements because that's important on getting a good reading:)

I let my trainer do all my measurments because I don't feel like I am doing them right or in the right spots. So maybe watching her do it a few times I will catch on to the right spots to measure!!!!!

I got a MyoTape (tape measure especially for body measurements, was around 5 bucks on Amazon) and it makes my measuring so much easier! It's much easier to find the widest part of my hips and the thinnest part of my waist with it. It's almost like a tape measure "lasso" so you can slide it around to find the perfect fit. Plus it's awesome for arm measurements, only takes one hand to use!

I used to work at a bridal shop and had to take peoples measurements all the time....this is what they were and what people are refering to when they talk about bust waist and hips measurements, good to know not only for weightloss, but for clothes sizing charts too

Bust: fullest part of your chest. Some people will also measure the underbust too, but when you see bust in measurements its the fullest part

waist: narrowest part....its different for every person, but we were always told to go two inches above the belly button.

hips: fullest part, usually lower than what most people would consider the hips....its basically measuring your butt.

heres a good pic to illustrate

the really important thing though is to be consistant with your measurements like the other poster said. If you're measuring your hips higher or your waist lower, its totally fine, just make sure you measure in the same spot all the time so you can track the changes

Yeah, I know the one measurement that always threw me off was waist, because it usually says ~1 inch above your belly button (aka the narrowest part), but my narrowest part is more like 3 inches above my belly button ><
