We can create Super computer with such intelligence that it can do whatever you program it to do. We can Create great inventions that change the way we live and interact. We can figure out how to solve and make real complicated formulas for modern medicine to cure some really nasty diseases. We can achieve power and money. But we cannot find away to Be truely Happy! Aint that something ?

We're looking in the wrong place. Truth is the human race would be better off in the jungle fighting for territory and food. Instead we create WMD's and laws... we may have evolved to think outside the box a bit but underneath the apes are still running things lol0

I know, it's amazing. Probably because everyone has something different that makes them happy. Some people are happy after spending 5 minutes outside, others are happy painting and others aren't happy until they get a raise. It's too diverse0

Well true happiness is just being happy, for nothing, just to say i am alive! or to enjoy the simple things without reward.0

There is no "be happy" trigger on people I am affraid (trigger happy lol... sorry I thought that was funny... * ahem *).
Anyway I was just reflecting on happiness myself the other day, and I really think it is just a combination of small things: going out for a drink with friends, listening to a music that you have associated with good memories, looking at birds and children play while sitting in a park, looking at the rain on the window, etc. (thus the no trigger thing, and thus the fact I guess that science can't help with that... They can provide enhancers - drugs - but not create happiness out of nothing).
Small things that seemingly do not matter on their own, but build up to make you happy.0 -

Hmmm, not sure I agree. I think happiness is different for all. Some people like rewards0 -

That sounds lovely but goes against a few other human traits. One major one that springs to mind is ambition whereby someone always looks to better their situation, this is clearly a trait that has kept us moving up the food chain over the years lol. Goal driven behavior is quite common, e.g. I eat less to lose weight, without a goal/reward I'd just be eating less.
Another messed up thought is this: if you were always happy, wouldn't you just take it for granted? Surely sadness, no matter how brief, molds our perceptions of the importance of being happy.
I'm definitely not saying you couldn't just be happy for no reason, just that most people refuse to be.0 -

That is called "pleasure" not "happiness".
The difference is that you will need more and more rewards to be temporarily "happy" (or pleased rather), after you had a reward once (i.e. 1 salary increase won't content you for a long time)... Whereas happiness is a more durable feeling.0 -
pleas·ure/ˈpleZHər/
Noun: A feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment:0 -

No joy without pain!0 -
if we had androids that could take the place of human mates...well...i think it would help me feel very happy. my android would look like the kind of guy I am attracted to, speak like him, act/dress like him...
my android would not care if I'm fat, ugly, and wouldn't leave me for a younger model when i get old. unconditional love, but unlike a pet, you could engage in human activities (ex go on roller coasters/go out to eat), and hold conversations with each other...
i do not think i would hate myself so much if i had one haha0 -
But you see, the human mind has learn to interpret things in different scenarios now.
We can really understand the human mind and see why we need object's or certain situations to cause an emotion of endorphins. Thing i want to know is, since we are aware of the Joy and pain theory, why can we not adjust and remain happy even in a rough patch.. But we can accomplish so many other things that deal with human growth and emotions. with out medication.0 -
Have you not seen Bladerunner? It'll end in tears, I tells ya!0

Maybe one day you girls will get your robot... and the guys will have something along the lines of a porn star that cooks  I joke, we're not that bad. Until then don't hate yourself, hate someone else that you don't have to spend any time with0 -
good question.
straight and easy: I think happiness is something living, moving, which could tranforms every day.
I don't believe in happiness, which doesn't mean I'm a desperate EXACTLY the contrary.
I believe in an interesting life, I believe in reality, and in real life you can find things that make you smile and other that make you cry at the very same moment, at the same place. Life is messy, ambiguous, ...happiness exists, thereby the possibility to be happy, but it's just a PIECE of the whole, we've better to stay open to the whole ...it's such more interesting and fullfilling than that phylosophical concept of being Happy
just my feeling, of course!0 -

Deep thought going on here, the idea that the brain is capable of understanding it's own complexity is a fun one. As much as I think I understand myself... there are times when I'm still shocked by my actions  I guess as much as we can operate at a conscious level there is still a heck of a lot going on under the hood that we don't really control. Some of it is very primal and reactive: violence, sex, thrill seeking. it sometimes feels like our subconscious guides our conscious decisions using basic emotions like fear, happiness and sadness. I guess that's why it's so hard to say why something makes you happy, or why you're in love... maybe these thoughts just aren't on show to the conscious mind.
Oooor maybe we should just forget about this whole mess and have a nice cup of tea.0 -
I just see it as, i am always unhappy when i gain weight, but yet my mind says hey you love that food. And its a constant struggle.
Where i can come up with a strong cure for cancer or heart problems. But i cannot control my emotional tract. And my mind is screwed.0 -

Ah I see what you mean now, I deal with that feeling by thinking yeah I love that food but I love getting healthier more. If I have a day when that isn't true, and I do, then I just let myself slip for a moment. If you slip, get back up and carry on like nothing happened
As for being overweight, that's no problem, being on the right path is all that matters.0 -
