Does anyone know how many calories using a Gazelle (without weights -the original) burns? I know it isn't a whole lot but I use it when I cannot walk outside because of bad weather. I couldn't find it in the search of the exercise section. Maybe I just wasn't looking the right place?
Also does anyone use a 'Total Gym' --you know the one hawked by Walker Texas Ranger and Christie Brinkley?? I have been thinking of buying one of the basic models to get my resistance exercise . Right now I use hand weights and resistance bands, but the Total Gym looks so fun in the infomercials.

I use a total gym, I love it. It sits right in front of the tv . So I tend to sit on it and use it rather than just sitting on the couch. I don't know how many calories it burns though. My kids like to use it too. All they do is little mini squats though, and some push-ups:laugh: its funny to watch.
Go here to find out what you burn on the gazelle http://www.fatburn.com/free_tool_activity_burn.asp
P.S. if you buy the total gym second hand its a lot cheaper. I got mine for only 100 bucks0 -
Try a heart rate monitor. (The kind you wear around your chest and comes with a watch.) These are much more accurate than guessing how many calories you burn. Most have basic time, calories burned, and total exercise time. Then the higher end more expensive models have a lot more features that you don't really need. You put in your age and it calculates % of max heart rate and calories burned. Then you just enter it in your exercise profile. I got a good deal on mine, $30 (Bell brand) at Tuesday Morning.0

My gazelle has a monitor on it.... When I maintain about 6.3 mph, I burn about 130 cal/10 min.
5.4-5.7 is right about 100/10min. I discovered that the macine says I burn more calories if I keep my heels down/shorter stride than pushing all the way to my toes/long stride. I would have thought the other way around, or at least trivial difference but oh well. Just wanted to share.0 -
Thanks for all the helpful information. I will be on a search for a total gym, I need to figure out if I have enough room in my den to leave it set up. That is the only way I actually use exercise equipment. I am a sucker for all of the infomercials advertising it then shop garage sales and thrift stores for it after everyone finds out they aren't good for them somehow. One thing I found about a lot of the equipment hawked on infomercials is that it is never as easy to fold, disassemble , or move as the salespeople say. I have a 'Power Rider' from the 80's(?) that most of the time sets on a hook that my husband installed for it in our mud room because it is SO HEAVY AND AWKWARD. I remember in the infomercial a tiny little woman moved it everywhere easily!:laugh:0

I absolutely
my gazelle!! Mine has a counter on it and I have found that I get about 200 calories for 30 minutes unless I really power into it. Whenever I log it into MFP I just use the elliptical setting and enter the calories manually. I also just found a Total Body Trainer by Jake on craigslist for pretty cheap. It's really great, has 12 different workouts on one small bench. If space is a problem, I would recommend it. Good luck!
