I really want to try a cycle class. I've never done one and it looks very intimidating. I'm not sure if I'm ready yet for one but I really don't know what to expect. I'm just curious about others experiences on cycle classes.

I would say...just do it. Most of the instructors I've had always ask if there are new people in the room and help with setting up the bike (that's probably the hardest part). There are also different types of classes. I like the classes that only do things that you would be able to do on a real bike (i.e., no pushups, pedaling with two feet, etc). For me, the music makes all the difference. I have 2 instructors that I don't like because their music choices for the rides are terrible. The classes are only as hard as you make them. You completely control the intensity and tension on the bike. If you do it right, they are very intense but they are also addicting. I would get some bike shorts for some extra padding.

yeah, me too. I dont think my butt could take it because it hurts quite a bit after 15 or so minutes....you would think because i have more padding....

It is really awesome. I did it like 10 years ago and I was 6 foot 4 and 275 pounds so if I can do it anyone can. I was covered in sweat and completely spent but loved the high intensity and fun of it. Fastest 45-60 minutes ever. Especially if the instructor is insane and the music is good. I am getting ready to start up spinning again myself as my weight loss has I so cannot wait because 75 minutes on the elliptical is starting to bore me to tears. Go for it I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.!!!!!! :)

The amazing thing about spin class is you can always go slower and reduce the resistance on your bike so you don't have to worry about keeping up other people in the class.

go for it, i used to love spinning, not quite up to going back just yet! it does depend on the instructor though, some are really good and make the class great fun but also hard work, others are boring as hell and its just stand up, sit down, repeat for an hour, so if you go and dont like it try again with another instructor.
the main thing is get some padded bike shorts, or you wont be able to sit down for days!
if you go in 10 mins early and tell the instructor you are new, they should show you what to do, then just grab a bike in the back so you can have a rest/drink when you need to :)

I started Spinning in August - and now I do it 4 times a week. It is great exercise and like the others said you can decrease the intensity until you can do it like every one else. Yes your butt does hurt at first :blushing: - but you also get use to that. Plus you don't spend all that time sitting. I would say - go for it - and don't just go once and go a few times until you decide if you like it. Plus it burns megga calories!

Thanks guys! I'm going to give a shot (still kinda nervous). I know my butt will hurt. It hurts on a regular bike.

in spin you are stood up probably half the time so shouldnt be as bad as on a normal bike :)
