today's my birthday yay! but when mom cut a slice of cookie cake for me she cut a 5 X 4 inch slice of cookie cake with chocolate frosting along the edges. I don't feel good about this at all-- will it set me back? This says I'm 700 calories over my goal of 1200 calories... =[!

In my opinion, your birthday should be the ultimate cheat day! Let yourself enjoy it without guilt -- and then kick your own butt in your workouts tomorrow. One day isn't going to derail you as long as you get back to business tomorrow.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!0 -
We all have off days..BUT ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ENJOY YOUR COOKIE!! Just work out a little longer tomorrow.. Dont feel guilty.. I could c if ya ate the whole thing, but a piece naaaa!! Happy birthday and dont worry!0

I'm with everyone else. Heck, go to the kitchen and get another peice, it's still your birthday for a little while longer!0

Why's mom making a cookie cake when she knows you're on your way to healthier eating? sounds like sabotage! , I don't believe in cheat days, I think that it's more like find an excuse to eat poorly and call it a cheat day....i dunno, just wrong to me. I think if you want the piece of cake,. eat it, with no repercussions? sp, gosh, i'm french my english bites! If there's guilt involved then you're not at a point in your journey where those kinds of food should be an option. Sorry I'm brutally honest. Call it was it is, a bad food choice. Then move on, it's not the end of the world, and no amount of "gym" time tomorrow or in the next 5 minutes makes up for it, you shouldn't have to exercise "extra" to have a piece of cake, that just sounds plain nuts to me. Oh by the way...happy birthday.0

On behalf of moms everywhere, let me say this about that:
Sometimes feeding our grown up children is very satisfying for us - not necessarily healthy or good, but a hard habit to break.
Many years ago I had to sit my mom down & just say - hey! I walk in your house & start shoving food in my mouth & I'm not even hungry. It's just a comfortable habit.
So - be patient with your moms & their love for feeding you. Communication is key. Sometimes older generations aren't aware of nutritional info & that's how we got to this place anyway.
My mom always thought since there's milk in ice cream, it's just as good.
Happy Birthday! Work out extra tomorrow & educate your mom as you lose!0 -
Oh it's your birthday. Treat yourself. Just get rid of the rest at midnight then hop back on schedule.0

Cookie cake is TOTALLY worth it

I'm trying to make the point that it's ok to treat yourself. Especially on your birthday. I honestly don't see anything wrong with a second peice of cookie cake once in a while. Of course, I also believe that a bacon cheeseburger can be a part of a healthy diet, as long as you eat accordingly around it. :flowerforyou:0

It's cool. Different means, same end. We all have different ways of making it work for us and as long as being healthier is the result, it's all good.0 -
If your goal is 1200 and you didn't exercise, an extra 700 will have you around maintenance (depending on how big your deficit is).
If you're really concerned, do a little birthday dance. Else, work out a little longer tomorrow.
Oh yeah, Happy Birthday :flowerforyou:0 -

Happy Birthday!
I went over by 500 cals today and its NOT my birthday....lol. I only have serious stress to blame it on and that's not really a good excuse.
It takes what like 3500 calories to gain a pound in a week? I'd say be careful for the rest of the week and be aware you may not see any weight come off for another week or so. It's your birthday. Don't stress and be good the rest of the week.0 -
Today is my daughters birthday and last friday was mine. Two in one week. My oppinion is this, all things in moderation. I enjoyed a treat on both days, and it was nice. Enjoy your birthday don't feel guilty about it. How miserable would life be if we never again enjoyed cake, chocolate or cheesecake! The key is MODERATION. If she left it at your house, give it to a neighbor or take it to work tomorrow and share with your friends. Having healthy eating habits is a lifestyle that encompasses many years, not one day.

I had to laugh at the milk in ice cream comment. My "adopted family" (they let me live with them when I was preggers with my son) has this mode of thought. I remember many days I would find everyone eating rice krispie treats for breakfast, because it was made with cereal. Hmmmm.... wonder why I gained 90 lbs with that pregnancy? lol0 -

I like how you think. Especially the "if there's guilt involved then you're not at a point in your journey where those kinds of food should be an option."
And if you already ate it then move on. Don't eat another piece if you're already feeling guilty about the first one.0
