When does the weight start to go down?

Hello everybody!
I'm on MFP for almost two months now, and i'm really pretty dedicated. Ok, there are some days when i don't do exercise (i ride a bike) and when i eat something i shouldn't or drink alcohol, etc... But, i always get back on track and am careful with what i eat and am actually enjoying it!
But, the scale is ignoring me. Not completely, but i believe she shoud be showing some smaller numbers. Anyway, since i started, i have lost 5 kg (11 lbs) which is also great, but i thaught it's gonna be even more th next time i step on a scale. I only do it once per month, and 2 kgs (4 lbs) per month seem a bit hmmm.... Well, i thaught it's gonna be more.
Do you think i should maybe push even harder and forget about alcohol and those eating parties?
I don't like what i see on the scale, and i would like to know how is/was your experience, and am maybe hoping for some advice...
Thank you so much!
Greetings, Kora

If you open your diary you'll get much better advice.0

in the same boat, diet all week, go over like 500 cals once a week when i drink (which equals maintence for me) and still end up the same weight every week!!! frustrating!!!!0

Way I do it my dietitian told me is to look at it this way
As a female you don't wanna eat less than 1200 a day
As a male you don't wanna eat less than 1800 a day
Always burn more than you consume for great weight loss
Your body will always have a certain amount a day you will burn just sitting on your butt
For example my body alone is roughly 1600 a day just sitting around doing nothing
I consume around 1200-1400 a day
Low carb is key, heavier carbs in the morning
Whole grains keep you fuller longer & fresh fruit and veggies and lean meats
Personally I do red meat and taters 2x a week
Remember the heavier you are the more calories you will burn and the smaller you get the harder it gets but we can't let that get us down
Like example I gained 195lbs when I quit smoking, I was 135 when I graduated almost 12yrs ago, quit smoking gained weight but didn't get on track til March 2009 when my docs got on my case saying they didn't want me to have a kid til I was at a good weight, October 2010 I lost 156lbs then came stress of buying selling houses, now after my slack phase im back on track in the last month I lost almost 6 lbs
I been trying to burn a extra 500-1200 cals a day on top of the 1600 cals and everything else, one thing im trying to watch is sodium and carbs, not trying to burn 4000+ like I was last year a day cause my doc said if im trying to have a baby at the sametime don't over do it just do what I can
we can do this
Just remember burn more than you eat just don't consume under 1200 cals as long as ur getting 1200 and plenty of water your good (1800 for a guy)
Muscle weighs more than fat, muscle burns more fat
3500 cals to put ON a lb
3500 burned cals to take OFF a lb
If you eat less than those carbs your body will go into starvation mode and store everything & we don't want that!
hope that helps I know it helped me0 -
OMG this is me! I exercise EVERYDAY, minimum 200cals a day and i eat around 1300 cals per day (i've had maybe 3 big blowout days in 2 months and even then they were only around 2000)
I've only lost around 5 kgs in 7 weeks and barely any cms! So frustrating0 -
The tape measure is your friend. I swear you will see more results with the tape measure if you are regularly exercising than you do on the scales.
Measure once a month and you will see the results!0 -

ME TOO! I lost 5 kgs the first month, and I do have days when I go over, usually weekends, but my weekly average is usually pretty good! I exercise, and eat back some but not always all of my exercise calories. I usually weigh in once a week, but I like to keep track of the ups and downs. Lately I've been locked at one weight, and now I am even gaining!
I havent been losing cms either. I don't know what I'm doing wrong!0 -
a 0.5 - 1kg loss per week is a healthy loss. The slower you lose it the less likely you are to put it all back on again!
Slow and steady wins the race........and congratulations on your loss so far!0 -
i am this and havent lost any in a month. plateau i guess. after loosing 14.5kg guess this is it...0

well, without knowing what you are eating, i'd venture to say that you probably aren't eating enough, and you aren't eating the right foods. you probably have your "loss per week" set at 2lbs per week, and your down to 1200 calories or so, and even then you try and come under by 100 calories. i bet if you were up to 1400 calories, and came right up to that number (plus or minus 100cal) you would start seeing results faster, and more consistent.
and you shouldn't use alcohol to go up to maintenance calories.0 -
I'm honest I'm having a hard time believing that people who have between 40-60kg who are eating right and exercising right aren't losing.0

First of all, thank you all for your answers!
Well guys, it looks like we gotta try harder.
I guess my problem is that i have some days where i'm so busy that i don't manage to eat more than 800 cals. My daily goal is set to 1600 and i always try to have over 1200, except those days when i'm working. I usually ride my bike 3 to 4 times a week for an hour and a half, sometimes more, and manae to balance that very good. I drink alcohol only when i go to partys, which doesn't happen often.
It's not that i am not satisfied with my result, it's just strange that i didn0t lose even more. I mean, i've lost a lot of cms, and find it even more stranger that the scale doesn't show that. That's all actually. I was just wondering if it's normal or not.
Oh, and i have another 50 kgs to lose, i'm not between 40-60.
Have a nice day!

Muscle is denser than fat, so you may be gaining muscle. By working out, being active and losing weight slowly it sounds like you're gaining weight also, which is very good! It means it's likely that you won't be skinny fat. However, you need to work to net at least 1200 a day. I've heard that nuts are a good way to get energy and keep the calories up.0

2 kgs a month sounds perfectly reasonable to me.0

Without seeing everything you eat, I would say up the exercise. You probably have a slow metabolism and the only way to get the results on the scale is to ramp up the exercise to a training mode and burn those calories!0
-
uh, you've been here 2 months and you've lost 5kilo(11lb) and you're worried about the scale not moving? It doesn't happen over night, I think you're doing just fine.0
