Hi Susie1740 I have got a bad back but still wanted to exercise so I have recently purchased a recumbent exercise bike. The bike is very low impact but still gives me a good workout. It's a v-fit from Argos & I paid about £125 for it. It's self assembly but I manage to put it together easily enough & Im not great with things like that!!
Hope that helps

i too have a recumbent exercise bike and like alicepalace22 said it is a decent work out and low impact and i like the fact that i can read as i do it (or watch Dr Who... I know i'm a sci-fi freak). but make sure you try it out first. don't assume all are the same and never buy "off the rack". the wrong bike will be uncomfortable and wind up being a place to hang your shirts.0

It's always wise to read customer reviews on such products before buying. I'm looking for one too and that's how I'm doing my "homework"0

Depends a lot on your budget. I didn't have a lot and I bought this for about $200 (I think I got it for about $170 actually but I can't remember)

I was so worried about my butt hurting too much on a regular stationary bike, so that's why I spent a little extra for a recumbent model. Plus, it makes it easier to do shoulder presses and stuff with dumbbells while I'm riding.

I've been riding it for 9 months now, a few days per week, and so far the only problem is that the pulse thing stopped working after the first month or so. It has 8 levels of resistance and I started around 4/5 and now I'm on 7/8.0 -
I bought one and the only thing I hate about it is the seat. It is HARD! I got mine for under 200.

We just had a new state of the art YMCA branch open. The spin studio is filled with all 'Spinner' bikes. You can see them at www.spinning.com. They are way nicer than the old Schwinn's at the 'old' Y. You'd have to resarch how/where to buy at the best price. They also have 4 bikes on the gym floor with screens and a virtual instructor program - pretty cool! I heard those were a cool $2,000 each though.0
