Hi All, I am sure you are all aware of the expanding market of fitness based video games, especially with the Xbox Kinect, Wii, and Playstation Move, Does anyone use these are forms of exersize? How do you count your calories? What Games do you play for a good work out? I find I get tired fast playing a baisic game on the kinect, i need to get myself a heart rate monitor...

I've been using UFC Personal Fitness Trainer on Kinect quite a lot, and will also use Dance Central. And yes, I do count them as exercise, especially UFC. Ultimately, if it gets your heart going and burning calories, it is exercise. However, I will add, I usually do this as a warm up for half an hour or so before I do some weights, push ups, sit ups etc.

I count calories the same way I do with any excercise - I have bought a heart monitor with a calories burnt function. I don't really buy in to using averages posted on the web as the reality is everyone burns calories at a different rate, dependant on how your body reacts to different excercise, so I like to get as accurate a reading as I can.

I use Ea sports active on the wii and i,ve started to use this for 2 weeks and i,ve even managed to get over my plateau which ive been on for 3 months!!
I rate this game so much as it comes with a heart rate monitor which tells you calories burnt on screen and burn rate. Also it comes with a resistance band for exercises! Not bad for 13 pound on amazon :0)
    Awesome game!
  • I second the EA Sports Active 2 rec - it's absolutely brilliant! You can start off slow, pick your workouts for your problem areas and avoid any exercises that you may have problems with (I have real problems with doing push-ups for example, my wrists are pretty fine boned and just can't seem to take the pressure). Well worth investing in and I suggest some wrist and ankle weights as you progress to make things a little harder.

    :)
  • I use Zumba Wii and also Just Dance 1 and 2 for the Wii. They don't burn as much calories as Zumba but they sure are fun. Looking into Jillian Michaels' Wii game. Can't remember the name ...

I do the just dance. I put it under dance, general on MFP. Its fun and burns the calories. HOw "difficult" is the EA sports to those who use it? Can you use it without a board? Is it ok for someone not as fit? (im 296lbs) I would love to try it!

i use the kinect system and i log all of the games i use on it as exercise, even kinect adventures cos i get really out of breath and my heart rate goes up, i have zumba for it (waiting for 2 to be available) and according to my hrm i burn approx 450 cals during an intermediate 45min work out so it is a good burn. i have also used your shape: fitness eveloved which is good but involved a bit too much faffing about about between workouts. i just got the 2012 version for christmas and its much better, great variety of workouts improved menu system no horrendous fitness test that was all lunges and squats lol, but the calorie count was well off (but this was to be expected as it didn't ask for any of my details my hrm gave me a reading of 310 cals burnt compared to the games 120. but yes great exercise
