Fit Bit - which calories to count

Hello everyone
I'm considering getting a fitbit. I use myfitnesspal daily (and I  it!!) to record all the food i eat and then i also track the calories i burn during my workouts. In this way, I know how much more or less I can eat which is awesome!

My question.... if I get the fitbit, should i enter into myfitnesspall ALL of the calories the fitbit says I've burned througout the day or just the ones I've burned during my workout?

Thanks!

If you want to use MFP as intended, I'd say just during the workout and then a little less. You burn calories just by breathing/moving and MFP takes that into acccount. I'd estimate 5-10% less than the FitBit calorie burn per hour.

Calculate your BRM using the MFP thing under Tools,
Take the Fit Bit number and minus your BMR from that... this is the number of "extra" calories your earned above the calories MFP gives you

    Example:
Fitbit says you burned 2000 calories today
MFP says your BMR is 1400 calories/day

Your exercise calories to enter into MFP is 2000-1400= 600 calories

Good question. Thank you for that and for the answers. I am waiting for my fitbit to arrive and I never even thought of that. I keep reading that MFP is going to be synced with fitbit in the future. What exactly does that mean? Would we not have to enter something?

I use the miles travelled throughout the day from my fitbit. I found a formula to translate that into calories . Miles travelled *.5*current weight. I found the formula on livestrong. I usually round down so if it says 2.3 miles I use 2 miles. Seems to be working because I'm losing weight!

Wait how does that work? That formula gave me 728 calories for yesterday so I'm thinking....bad idea.

Lately I've just been going by my total fitbit number minus 400 or 500 calories by the time I go to sleep and barring other problems I have that screw with my weight loss, it's been working.

Depending on what you do for exercise, you could use it either way but if you have a heart rate monitor, use those numbers for your exercise.
