Hello Everybody I have a question for you all, here goes...Does anyone take a day away from logging calories and just indulge a little more? I dont want to say a day off, but basically a day off. I guess I would like to think on days I go over my calories its ok. Please let me know what you guys do that works. Thanks.

i always log my calories and work out, but if i go over a day here or a day there every few weeks i dont beat myself up over it. but i always log, so if i do go over i can make up for it the rest of the week. but if you mean take a day off and just not log period, no i dont. i even logged all my food for thanksgiving.

I don't log my foods on Sundays. I know I'll go over my calories anyway (Sundays start with doughnuts and chocolate milk at my house), and my eating habits on Sundays have been the same for the last 8 years. I try to make better choices (1 doughnut, not 2, etc.), but I don't stress it that one day. It works for me.

I do! I try to have one day a week where I can indulge a bit, I don't go crazy but if I want to go out to eat I just enjoy it. I feel that by letting myself have some of what I want it is easier for me to stick to the plan. For me it also helps me when I am having a craving, I just tell myself that on my "day off" I can enjoy what I think I am wanting, but usually I find that by the time my "day off" comes I am over the craving :-) I have also found that if I change my calories up every now an again I don't tend to plateau as much. When I do reach a plateau I have gone off the plan for as much as a week at a time and when I get back on the weight starts coming off again. I don't know if that would work for you but over time I think you will find what works best in your situation. Good luck! :-)

I'm all for it. This blog post explains it pretty well: http://www.diet-blog.com/08/have_a_day_off_your_diet.php

I think that as a person who loves food, it doesn't make sense to assume that I will never have too much cheese, or pizza, or fries, ever again. Weight loss and getting in shape is a long journey, and I think a few detours to enjoy the good stuff (and reeeeeeally enjoy it) is probably the best way to stick with it for the long run. It's much better getting burnt out and overwhelmed by never getting permission to eat what's 'bad' (but oh so delicious) for you.

I'm aiming for about two days off a month, but it might be about one a week, we'll see how it goes :)

Thanks very much for your feedback. I actually did log my calories even though I was 500 calories over. I think I had a hard time accepting that. But you all made me feel much better :) Thanks again.
  • i agree i think you need one cheat day maybe each week or maybe every two weeks.
