My fiancee is planning on joining the navy and he's working on his body composition right now while he studies for the ASVAB. Do any of you guys have any helpful tips I could maybe share with him?

P.S. my dad was in a different branch of the military, but remember...it doesnt matter which side of the football game we're all on!!! XD

  • Similar conditioning to a gymnast but stay out of the gym, it wont help him. Calisthenics will help with strength/endurance as well as agility and coordination. Usual rule with the military is to learn to love running.

I was in the military it was awesome. Not really sure what your asking though are you talking about how basic training is gonna be or what exactly?

Asking about what he can do to get in better shape BEFORE basic training, haha!!! He's aiming at lowering his body fat percentage and boosting his muscle, and I think he wants to learn some military exercises so he can work on those in advance. NONE of that has been my priority at the moment, and the best thing I have is squat thrusts/burpees. So I thought I'd ask in hopes of being able to help him and cheer him on. :)

Ah! He's also working on his diet. I'm not sure what it is, but it sounds like carb cutting (also not my strong point, and again, why I'm asking...)

Well Navy of course is different then what I was in but some of the things that we did was sit ups push ups pull ups running mountain climbers jumping jacks and others I can't really remember. There is one i don't know what its called but you stand straight squat down put your hands on the floor jump your legs back so your in a push up position do a push up jump your legs back by your hands and stand up we had to do that over and over fast too if you took a break or messed up everyone got in trouble and you got yelled at. For our test we had to run a mile in less then 4 mins but the guys had to do it in less then 2 i think have to do 100 sit ups in a min and 50 push ups in a min but again i'm a girl so for the sit ups and push ups the guys had to do more. you may be able to google navy basic training workouts or something and get more info.

Hope I helped tell him I said Good luck and THANKS FOR JOINING THE FAMILY!!!

  • The world record listings for a mile run:

British parachute regiment require 1.5 miles in 9 minutes, that's a 6 minute mile.
