Hi

I have recently been doing a lot of exercise but I'm finding that my joints are cracking or grinding through most of the workouts, does anyone know if there is anything I can do to help stop this?

Thank you and have a nice day.

  • Yes, I have this problem and have had to change up my routine because the knees and flexor in my hip are giving me issues. I have been doing more cardio on the elliptica and stationary bke as well as more pilates and yoga to stretch out my muscles and it is giving my knee time to heal from the pain I have put it through. I also take omega 3,6,9 daily which helps my joints.
  • Mine do that all the time. It's actually not a problem as long as it is occuring naturally (you aren't popping them on purpose) and it doesn't hurt. If it hurts you need to modify your exercises. Also, focus on doing the exercises more slowly with really good form and it will help reduce the sound.

Continue stretching, that will help as well.

Dshed02-if your knees and hip flexor are tight there are a lot of great stretches you can do for that. It may actually be your IT band (illitobial band). That area can get super tight and cause pain in your knee and hip.

Mine do that all the time. Especially with my shoulders when I do military press. I'm used to it but people working out around me might be like, "WTF! She falling apart over there!" It doesn't hinder me so I don't care anymore. As long as I'm still functioning right, it's all good. I heard somebody say it's something about build-up in the joints. It can also be referred to as crepitus. <not sure of spelling.

I've taken glucosamine chondroitin for my joints, but was never able to stay faithful enough to see if it helped me or not.

My body has been making those sounds as long as I can remember.

When I started moving from walking into running (c25k) I worked out I overpronate.

One thing led to another.... tried weight training - 12kg curls became a challange - when my wrist, elbow and shoulder sounded like they 'popped' (NOT dislocation) - was not really pain, just a little burning.

I'm like dammit - Dr Google. 1-2 months later confirmed Hypermobility. 1 in 10 people have it apparently. You just have to work around it.

If you ask me if I suffer from Hypermobility, well, no, I actually enjoy it lol. I'll probably end up being a Yoga instructor one day (because at 47, is too late to take up gymnastics or pro dancing lol).

My right knee really cracks and grinds. I figure it's okay as long as I don't have pain with it... ??

Grinding could be a cartilage issue... could mean you have less cartiage in the area where there's grinding which could cause you problems down the road. you may want to get it checked...

my joints have done this and still do but it has led to arthritis my left knee (due to be replaced) is so bad
you can take fish oil or flax seed oil as that can help and also glucosamine and chrondrontin
much better to start these things sooner rather than later
