Im taking a road trip with my Fiance' later this month. We will end up eating out alot!!! What are some good options to do while eating out on a super cheap budget?

  • Pack snacks before you go - those gas station stops can be deadly.
You can eat healthy at fast food places (altho not optimal), start with a plain side salad if you can and go with grilled chicken with no mayo (I also choose to remove the bun) and a kids fry.
Bring reading material - I know for me, road trips have alot of downtime and I have a tendency to eat out of boredom.

    Have fun

Watch out for road breakfasts! You can unwittingly get a heck of a lot of calories from a standard diner breakfast, or from fast food breakfast, and it's also easy to break your travel budget on breakfast, too.

To save money and calories, I like to pack cereal/ fiber bars or instant oatmeal packets.

If it were me, I'd bring along a crock pot and have some great meals in the room. It saves money and at the end of the day, you'll eat well with far fewer calories to worry about.

Granola bars will be your best friend. Eat at places after you've looked up some of their food options in the MFP database! Salads or chicken will be good bets... Try to get enough water... When you stop for gas do laps around the car for exercise/get the blood a-pumping/stretching out. Drive safe, wear your seat belt, and take photos!!

    Always vegetables.
    Always order appetizers or sides.
Always order soup if it's on the menu. Vegetables.

Remember. Small portions -- restaurants have no stake in your health or your waistline. They just want to feed you really awesome tasting and awesome looking food.
So less is more in the long run. Bring apples and baby carrots on the road. They are a great in between snack to prevent gas station stops.
