hey guys! i'm trying to get more water in but just don't like plain water unless it's during a workout. i've been using these mio water enhancers and they're very yummy. my question is this: is water with this stuff in it just as good for me as drinking plain water?

I'd say it is better than aspartame, but I limit my Mio to occasional use when the water quality isn't as good (e.g. filling up my water bottles at the fountain at school) and I just can't force another sip down due to the taste. I like it because it is portable. I do not use it at home.

As an alternative flavoring, add lemon or lime juice! :D Natural and tasty.

Tip: Make sure the water you are drinking is cold or has ice in it. I find that much more enjoyable than a warm glass of water. :)

Meh, it's debatable. If you're shooting for 8 cups a day, just try to get 4 of pure water and then 4 of the mio stuff, if you really just CAN'T do plain water.
If I want fancy water, I'll drink sparkling mineral water, or I'll get a pitcher of filtered water, add some strawberries or limes (or mint, or lemon, pretty much anything) and let it steep overnight. When I wake up in the morning, I've got lightly-flavored strawberry water.

In terms of hydration, then yes. Tea/coffee/milk/juice etc all hydrate you.

In the case of mio added to water, it is identical to water in terms of hydration. Just make sure you account for any calories.

AGREED!!! It contains Propylene glycol which is antifreeze!
  • I love MIO! I don't use it all the time but it's a nice break from plain ole water.

The acute oral toxicity of propylene glycol is very low, and large quantities are required to cause perceptible health damage in humans; propylene glycol is metabolized in the human body into pyruvic acid (a normal part of the glucose-metabolism process, readily converted to energy), acetic acid (handled by ethanol-metabolism), lactic acid (a normal acid generally abundant during digestion),[11] and propionaldehyde (a highly toxic substance)

I'm still not taking antifreeze ... regardless of what an article says.

Water is an industrial lubricant and degreaser. What's your point again?
Oh, and I hope you never take any kinds of medications, as most contain propylene glycol.

Also, just to put it to rest. Propylene glycol is a food additive. It is additionally used in specific types of antifreeze because it's NON-TOXIC. It's specifically used because it's safe for humans and animals to eat.

Use in antifreeeze is just one use for it.

People screaming "It contains antifreeze" is just silly scaremongering. Every single processed food contains things that are used for non-food purposes (and when I say processed; I mean anything that is sold in a bottle, carton, jar or packet).

Common table salt (sodium chloride) contains sodium (a metal) and chloride (an ion of chlorine - a highly toxic chemical usually found in gaseous state).

Yeah, like I don't already put enough hazardous chemicals in my body every time I breathe in, drink tap water, or eat without going looking for the stuff.

    I'll pass.

OMG IT HAS ANTIFREEZE AND STUFF IN IT!

But really, propylene glycol is a safe, non-toxic substance that has many uses. As someone pointed out, it's an inactive ingredient in most medicines. It's not harmful to your body unless you drink gallons of the stuff. And I doubt it contains anything "highly toxic", otherwise they wouldn't exactly be able to sell it, would they?

Then you've got a ton of research do to and a long list of foods you can't eat anymore.

I personally don't think drinking flavored waters is a bad thing if it gets your daily need in, my problem is I don't like Mio. The sweet tea was disgusting. If we spent everyday avoiding the things bad for us, we'd be stuck at home living in a bubble

I drink it pretty much everyday! I love the strawberry watermelon! I can buy and keep a bottle for two weeks. I just drop a small squirt in my water bottle to take that pure water taste away and flavor it just a bit. I also drink a lot of green tea and water with lemon, as well. I like to mix things up. I guess----> with the winter coming and all, the added ingredient "antifreeze" will keep me from freezing to death, I suppose. I learn something new everyday on this site. Today, it was the anti~freeze thing in something as simple as a water enhancer. I even read where diet coke has embalming fluid it! If it doesn't fall from a tree, grow from the ground or have eyes, don't eat it.... but yet, there is mad cow disease, good lord what do they spray on our fruits and what exactly poops on our veggies? But wait! Be careful how you wash those foods, that water may be contaminated and not filtered enough!! Sorry... not being a smart *ss....I just wanted to make a point, that is all. If we had to worry about every single thing we ate and drank.... well... we should just give it all up and live in a bubble. Happy day to you all and cheers :drinker: to my mio in my tall glass if ice!!

Source? I've looked, and everything I'm reading shows no information or evidence of toxicity in humans.

And chlorine is so toxic, chlorine gas was the first gas used in chemical warfare during the first world war. So anybody that is afraid of Mio containing Propyleneglycol (an ingredient in antifreeze) better stay away from salt because it is made from a metal that explodes in water and a gas that will kill you.

I always drink my water plain.... The only thing I ever change is the bottle I drunk it out of..... Flavored water is Kool-Aid.... Which is as bad as pop to me.... But that's just me...

PROPYLENE GLYCOL IS NOT ANTIFREEZE. It's one component used in some antifreezes. Know what else is used in those antifreezes? WATER. So if you want to continue to spread misinformation that propylene glycol is bad because it's in antifreeze, then you have to also tell everyone how bad water is, as it's also in the same antifreeze.

    It's called critical thinking.

I just don't believe in spreading scaremongering - "OMG, this contains antifreeze".

There are 118 known chemical elements on the periodic table of elements. Every single thing on the planet is made up of some of these elements. Of course something we eat is also going to be found in a harmful chemical, it's elementary science.

There must be a class action lawsuit against the makers of Mio by now.

    No?

Also, if you're afraid of dangerous chemicals in the things you consume, avoid water. Water contains hydrogen, which is very explosive and flammable, and pure oxygen, which can also be extremely flammable.

Just add fresh lemon, lime or even orange slices to your water it's much healthier.
