Dinner Party Tonight - Help!

Special occasion this evening as a friend is just home from the hospital.
Items I know that are being served are:
Meat Loaf
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Brussel Sprouts
Cherry Pie - Homemade
This will be my first real challenge. Today I have consumed 300 calories trying to save up for the evening. Am planning on a protein snack in a few hours.
Entered the items in the food dairy and it is a lot of calories. Only thing I can figure is to load up on vegetables, eat small portions of the rest.
Any suggestions?

Skip the gravy on the mashed potatoes, maybe take the top crust off of the pie and try to just stick to a proper portion size for everything. Also, bring along a veg or fresh fruit platter for everyone if you can.0

Very good suggestions thank you!
Had not considered not eating the top crust as that is my favorite part but that is what this is all about, controlled compromise.
Congrats on your weight loss.0 -
Ok that is so weird!!
The menu (minus the cherry pie) is EXACTLY what
my food diary says for this evening's meal (what I'm
cooking tonight).
Yeah, I would suggest small portions of everything
and a couple bites of cherry pie. Then put your napkin
over the top (you wouldn't dare lift it up to eat more
when there are people watching!).
Try drinking a glass of water before the meal and
sips in between bites. Fill up your tummy with H20.
You can do this! :flowerforyou:0 -
That is TOO weird about the same meal.
And good suggestion about just a few bites of the pie and the napkin. Actually my weakness of the meal would be the potatoes and gravy.
After reading your bio, have you read "Thin Again" by Judy Wardell? It is about surrending all this to God and feeding that internal hunger with spiritual matters.

I have not read that particular book but I'll check it out!
Surrender is key, I tell ya.
Can't do this on my own strength, that's for sure.
Thanks for the recommendation!0 -
Eat before you go. Don't allow yourself to be starving or you will eat more than you'd like.0

Well I must have been reading your mind as I just ate a 20-gram protein bar, those keep me well for some time and yes so I would not be starving.
It is just one day in a series of days and weeks and months for me, I have to look at it that way as well.
Food and drink are just that, they should not control us, it is the people and animals about that are the most important to enjoy.
And my big thing is to eat slowly like a child would do, just little bites!0
