Torn between buying a Miata and an SUV. Miata: Good on gas, fun as all hell, room for 5 bags of groceries, unsafe, can't drive in snow. SUV: Bad on gas, not much fun, room for a living room set. Safe, good in the snow. There is no middle ground here. I want some sort of advantage over our other car, which is a sedan. I don't drive to work, I just need to be able to tool around when my fiance has the car, which is every night (stupid second shift).

I'd go for efficiency over capacity. . . but then, I'm an eco-nazi.0

I say go with the Miata! Reward yourself for those 20 lbs lost and more to come:)0 -
You can get a SUV that is good on gas. I have one. I just love my SUV. If you get alot of snow like we do you would regret getting the car. My sister in law regretted getting her car she traded it in 1 yr later for an SUV.0

Go for the SUV, if you're not really driving a bunch, plus a guy in a miata is not a good look, in my opinion0
-
get a small pick-up0

You can always go with a smaller suv, and if you need some help buying let me know Im a salesman0

We test drove an equinox, loved it! Decent mileage, handles well, all wheel drive, lots of space, low and good in the snow. If you have to worry about a lot of snow, the miata would be an accident waiting to happen, and you'd have to be on friendly terms with a snowplow driver unless your street gets cleared regularly. Cars are a waste of parking space where I live. Lol0

I`d got for the Miata as well. But I can`t stand SUV`s. I`ve always been opposed to things that are `cool`. lol. Plus, I`m all about gas savings (I drive 1hour to and from work, so I go for what works for me).0

Just to be clear, my price range is $3,000, so I'm pretty much restricted to older than 1999.0

Miata is more of a girls car. i'd get an SUV.0

Get both, one for utility and practicality and one for fun. That's what I did. Actually I got two fun cars. Because I'm sick in the head.0

get a 1964 Impala!! :smokin:0

My sister had a Miata until about 6 months ago. I rode in it a couple of times and I'll tell you the truth. I ride a Harley almost daily and I felt a LOT more exposed and unprotected in that Miata than i ever do on a bike. its short, small, hard to see and no cruple zone. Any kind of accident in it and your goint to have injuries to deal with the rest of your life. Heaven forbid you get t-boned in a miata. You'll eat the other cars bumper in your ear.0

why purchase a grocery getter if you don't need one! go for the fun car! (maybe not the mazda but a real fun car)0

Put the money in savings, save for a couple more years, and then get a sports car that you can spend at least $15K on. Or buy a crotch rocket.0 -
Miata is fine in snow if equipped with dedicated snow tires.0
