Swelling after running

I've noticed this since it's gotten cold out and wondered if I should be worried. Whenever I do a longer than 3 mile run my hands swell up and start to feel funny. After a 5 miler a week or so ago I got really worried because my wedding band felt really really tight on my finger and I couldn't get it off for the life of me. It's normally loose. This happened again this afternoon but the swelling went down a bit quicker. Any insight here?

I think its just from having your hands down, etc. I have noticed some swelling as well. I try to clench and unclench my hands periodically, but my wedding ring is still snug when I get back for a while. Also if you put your hands up over your head while cooling down that should help as well.

Mine do that too. I think, as above, it has to do with swinging the arms and having them down - blood circulation, etc. Feet swell, too, which is why you need to get shoes with plenty of toe room. It's a normal thing for runners. Must mean you are doing it right!

Thanks ladies! I'll keep those tips in mind!

Melissa, yeah I figured that out after Warrior Dash in October. My left foot swelled so bad I couldn't get my shoe off after all the mud. I had to employ some guy to help me. Talk about a damzel in distress moment :embarassed:
