How much does your weight flucuate?

Hey guys. So I've read a million times to weigh yourself at the same time, and your weight can change up to 2lbs a day, but it drives me nuts :indifferent: I lost 1lb in the last four days, and wasn't TOO excited, then when I stepped on the scale again later I was up two pounds!
It's normal for my weight to change up and down about 2.5 lbs throught out the day, but why does this happen? And does your scale jump around on you this much?

Mine fluctuates up to 5# throughout the course of the day. It's the food, beverage and waste that's in your body, plus any changes in water weight caused by sodium, muscle inflammation, hormonal changes, etc. Or lack of water weight from excessive sweating... I've dropped as much as 2# after a long run.0

This is why we're told not to weigh ourselves everyday, but I can't always help myself either!
Your weight will fluctuate for loads of reasons, including but not limited to:
-when you last ate
-*what* you last ate (if it had a lot of salt, you will retain some fluids)
-how much fluids you've consumed
-what you're wearing
-where you stand on the scale (sometimes that can give me a 0.5-1lb difference)
-the size of your last meal
All through the day your body is processing what you've eaten and drunk (add weight accordingly until it's digested), you go to the toilet (lose some ounces), you exercise (sweat = loss) and if you don't drink enough fluids, you can actually retain fluids ( = gain) because your body doesn't want to dehydrate.

Thanks for the useful info! When I weigh myself daily I don't record it I just get curious as to what the heck my body's up to :laugh:
Then when I do weigh in I wonder if I've lost less/more than it actually shows..blah.0 -
i hate it!!!im stuck between 2 kilo range and i can't move out of it!!! (at the moment its at the higher end too....)

My weight fluctuates a lot as well (2-3 pounds increase or decrease) but I don't think too much on it. So long as I see it steadily going down (which it has been since I've started). Starting a diet is a new thing to both your mind and body so it sometimes takes some getting used to. Your body also goes through many stages of change that might be causing the fluctuations. Bloating, excess water, clothes, etc will give you a different outcome each time. Also keep in mind that if you exercise a lot, not only is your body burning calories, it's gaining some muscle as well and muscle has mass that will show on the scale. Do your best to weigh yourself in the same situation as the night before. For me, I weigh myself in the morning after I go to the bathroom and make sure I have nothing on, not even socks! (Yes, I'm that paranoid that socks with cause my scale to show a higher weight. XD) I also hop on the scale 2-3 times just to be sure.
The only reason you need a scale is to know that you are losing. One scale can say 150 while another says 140, but so long as the numbers are going down, who really cares how much you ACTUALLY weigh. It's what you see in the mirror that determines if you are happy with where you are at or not.
Also, don't be afraid to weight yourself EVERY morning. Studies have shown that people who weight themselves every day and know their weight are more likely to be more determined to lose weight. I know that when I see the numbers in the morning, they stay in the back of my mind throughout the day and I'm more careful about what I eat.

For me, the number on the scale depends entirely on the amount of carbs I eat (carbs cause sodium and water retention). I have ballooned up 10lbs in two weeks before when dealing with a bad binge that I lost control of (sugar for is an addiction - sugar and wheat - which just turns to sugar in the body - affect the same receptors as opiate drugs - hence the addiction). It was almost entirely water from retention and systemic inflammation.
As long as I stay away from sugar, grains, beans and milk I won't get fluctuations.0 -
Stats, and Gender would play a big role.
@175 lbs. 5'9" and about 11% bf (Myself)
3 to 4.5 pounds every day. I believe your true weight is the one in the morning.
Every morning you wake up after fasting, your body wakes up beeling in a catabolic state. a little dehydrated maybe, and definately hungry. Everything has been digested, the body is retaining the least water, and your height has also stretched maybe about 1/4 of an inch.
On average your waist line can be about 1/2" to 1" slimmer at this point. and before you jump up on that scale in the morning also make sure you took care of your morning "laboratory duties". This will ensure that you are at your "Dry Weight" this is the consistant one I follow and the only one that ever makes sense.
Personally I jump on my digital scale 3 times just to ensure accuracy, and I'll take the 2 consistant readings as my official weight. My scale however has been pretty damn accurate that 90% time the readings show consistant for same weigh-in session.0 -

interesting - this is wha thappens to me too - what types of carbs - are you just talking refined ones? Or fruit and veg also?
can you eat grains and nuts?0
