We're living with my in-laws for the time being and they make it SUPER HARD to do ANYTHING.

Today...9am I go to start breakfast for my kids and I and they have the kitchen locked off because she's cleaning. Usually she does this kind of cleaning on Wed. mid afternoon (after lunch/before dinner). I find this rude...if nothing else, my kids HAVE to be able to eat! Common!

We're not allowed in the kitchen after 5:30pm. That means we have to have dinner cooked, eaten, dishes cleaned up, and us out by then. My husband doesn't even get home until 7pm most nights!

It just seems like we aren't wanted (and I'm sure we aren't- but were trying to get out) around here and they make EVERYTHING so hard! From cooking. To showers. To laundry. Etc etc etc. My kids and I stay in our room all day. How do you eat healthy and stay on track when half of the time you aren't allowed in the kitchen? We're not allowed in the kitchen/living room before 8:30am because they get grumpy if they get woken up...understandable. But then to have us locked out by 9am, without warning? FRUSTRATING!

I have snacks in our room for the kids. Animal cookies, pretzels, etc. But it really isn't "the healthiest" and its not filling. So I end up binging on it to get full and then whats the point?!

Sounds like Hubby needs to sit down with his parents and have a come to an understanding meeting.

It is really hard when you have to live by other peoples rules. Maybe get a small frige in your room and store some yogurt, fruit, veggies, low fat dressings, Natural no sodium peanut butter, low sugar jelly, bread, healthy cereals, nuts, milk and cheese. Good luck :drinker:

How about a stash of lean budget gourmet meals, (low in calories, and cheap)...... quick easy and they can be eaten in the tray....should be enough calories to keep everyone moving.. =)

Sounds more like you staying in a B&B or hostel than with family! .. why invite you there if they aren't willing to let you use the house, especially with kids who need feeding... and her son can't eat when he gets home after 7pm?.. what kind of parents are they!

I usually make his plate and take it to the bedroom and he'll eat it cold/room temp. once he gets home. But we can never eat as a family unless hes off work that day.

Sounds like they don't want you to get too comfortable. Hope you are saving.:drinker:

I'm so sorry...that's awful. I agree with the suggestion to find a mini-fridge (try craigslist or freecycle--maybe you can even find one for free or at least really cheap). At least you could do a little something better in your room. But what kind of people are they that they would make you and your kids (their GRANDCHILDREN) hide out in your room all day? I hope you can get out soon...I can't imagine how frustrating that is!

^ THIS! Your husband really needs to have a chit chat with his mother and father.....you are all family for godsake! And your in-laws are being very rude.

Wow..that really sounds like hell:devil: . I'm sure you are motivated to get out of there. they seem to be making it as unwelcoming as possible. I agree with the other posters above me. a small fridge with healthy snacks and some lean cuisine or some other brand of low-cal / low-fat dinners. good luck !
