I posted this a little earlier in the wrong place haha. I am not a big fish eater, but would like to substitute it into some of my meals. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what type of fish I should cook (not into the fishy taste) and also how to prepare. Basically any fish recipes that you have that are delicious would help.
Thank You,
Andrea

Do you like salmon? Believe it or not, the frozen Highliner salmon filets (plain) that you can buy at Walmart or any other grocery store are pretty good as well as cheap. I broil 1 for about 20 minutes. You can rub a little curry powder (or whatever you like as a seasoning) on it before you cook.
I'm a west coast girl and love salmon! Hope this helps.0 -
I prefer Atlantic Salmon, but some people find salmon too fishy tasting so it really depends on what your personal preference is.Good mild flavored fish are usually white. Halibut, Tilapia, Red Snapper & Orange Roughy are my hubbys favorites and he doesnt like Fishy fish. If your not sure, buy it fresh from the seafood department at the grocery and ask the counter person what they have that is a mild tasting fish. They are great at making suggestions.
I cook each type the same way in the oven and it comes out perfect each time.
Rip off a square of aluminum foil that will be big enough to wrap each each filet.
Place fish filet in the middle of the foil and sprinkle with a little garlic salt and lemon pepper. (sometimes I add a little dill too, depending on what Im in the mood for) Squeeze half a lemon over the top of the filet and close up the ends and the top of the foil to make a small packet. Keeping the middle of the packet on the top so the lemon doesnt leak out and its easy to check when its done Bake at about 350 for 15 minutes or until fish flakes apart with a fork. The thicker the filet, the longer it takes. The foil makes for easy cleanup but you can also cook the packets on a BBQ outside instead of in the house to keep the fishy smell outdoors. If ya dont wanna mess with the foil idea, you can always spray a glass baking dish with some non-stick spray and prepare the fish the same way. Then bake covered in the oven at the same temp until done. Serve with some extra lemon wedges and some tartar sauce.0 -
I am in the same boat with you....
I love shell fish - scallops, oysters, lobster, crab, clams
but when it comes to fish - not so much.
Mahi Mahi is probably my favorite - I actually like it. It's very mild. Red Snapper is another.
You can baste with olive oil I like the old bay seasonings that you sprinkle on grill or broil squeeze fresh lemon on top after....I use my george foreman and it's really good.0 -
Mild fish may be your best bet if you don't like "fishy" flavor, salmon is good and great for you but may be too strong a flavor. I also dislike strongly flavored fish, but have found salmon marinated and grilled is very yummy. I keep Tilapia and some other white fish, like cod, snapper, roughy around. We ususally will pan sear in with some cajun spices in a bit of oil or if you want more "fish sticks" texture, try dipping fillets in some seasoned beaten egg, dip in bread crumbs or dehydrated potato flakes - spritz with some oil and bake at a pretty high temp ~400 degrees, and you have unfried fried fish. A good way to eat fish too if you aren't a fish person is fish cakes, I usually have tuna or salmon cakes in the freezer for my son. A can of white albacore tuna or salmon, mixed with some egg, breadcrumbs, spices of you choice and a big squeeze of lime....cook in a pan with a small amount of oil and they are great..freeze really well too. Hope that helps!:flowerforyou:0

Salmon, Yellowfin/Ahi Tuna, and Flounder are a few of my favorites. I normally just sprinkle Garlic salt and red pepper on them and throw them on the grill!0

I really don't like seafood...it's a mental thing....even though I love to scuba dive, I've got it in my head that if it comes out of the ocean, it's full of pollutants.....oil, trash, poo.....like I said....mental. Anyway, I can get down Tilapia. It's a nice white fish that doesn't smell, and has a very mild taste.....so mild I usually only notice the spices I put on it....usually lemon pepper. I can do canned albacore.0
