Has anyone ever worked out at Orange Theory Fitness Centers? They are opening up a new one right by myself. I signed up for their 6 week weight loss challenge. It wasn't a terrible deal, as long as I cancel my membership before the second month starts, otherwise, it's pretty expensive.

They are kinda like a boot camp workout. You go for a 60 minute class. It's about 30 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength training and 10 minutes of cool down stretching. Their goal is to get your heart rate up to 80% of your max and hold it there for 20 minutes.

It's all very fast paced, they use straps on the walls to pull yourself with, rowing machines, treadmills, steps, stuff like that.

Anyone had experience with it?? Just curious to know what I'm getting myself into.

I'm in the final week of the fitness challenge at the St. Petersburg location. The classes are pretty intense! They get harder as you go along. The treadmill workouts take you from a jog to run to lots of sprints. Fast walk or run on steep inclines also, fun stuff!
Interval training on row machines and weights. Our coaches say you can burn up to 1000 calories per class depending on the intensity. I love this place and will probably join after the challenge is over even though it is very pricey. Good luck to you!!

I go to the one at St Petersburg too - started last week. The classes are pretty intense and sometimes I've felt pretty exhausted for the entire day. The trainers say you burn between 600 - 1000 in the hour PLUS another 200 - 400 calories over the next 24 hours as a result of the "afterburn" from being in the orange/red heart rate (84 - 100% max heart rate) for 12-20 mins. I overdid it the other day and spent 22.5 mins in the orange/red zone and felt rubbish for the entire day. Today I've done 17.5 mins in the orange/red zone and I don't feel anywhere near as exhausted. I am actually going to cycle to work this morning!

One is opening near my house, I want to try it. I was wondering if there is anything special about the gym, because I already belong to two gyms and thought it might be something I can do on my own.
