Pizza?

Friday nights are my bad eating nights of the week. They are pizza night...I work 55 plus hours a week and by Friday I need a break so we get pizza, or make frozen pizzas. Are there any good tasting lower calorie frozen pizzas out there. I am always hesitant to buy new things because sometimes they just taste horrible. So I am looking to learn from others experience. Thanks in advance.

The delivery pizza chains have the nutrition info on their websites. You could check them out and order one that will not be so high in saturated fat. I have also tried the whole wheat crust from Papa Johns and I found it delicious. Can you and your family order other type of takeout other than pizza? I know...there arent too many good choices. :grumble: I know you want a break from cooking but I make my own pizza sometimes with healthier ingredients. Take care!! :flowerforyou:0

try a thin crust veggie pizza. i don't know how this will taste frozen, i know sometimes they can be pretty gross. but i have had it from pizza hut and a few other chains and they are delicious! Pizza hut is by far my fave for thin crust veggie lovers!0

I love pizza
if you are going to splurge on pizza
get a real pizza and enjoy it
just work it into your plan
why get a cardboard pizza?
get the best you can find
screw the low calorie crap and enjoy yourself with the real thing
and work out a bit more0 -

I agree...I do what Alf1163 says...I compare with other websites (yes, I have actually weighed my pizza) and record my calories. If I need too, I work out a little longer, etc.
We live in Buffalo NY and pizza and wings are a way of life here. I do the best I can and when I indulge I do it with moderation and guilt free so that I enjoy the taste of every bite.0 -

Yep! I agree, I have found that there are some really decadent lower fat toppings that I can get on them that make it a better nutrition choice than the meat lovers special, though, and I still am eating a satisfying pizza. That way you can have your pizza fix with the real thing and it tastes amazing too.
If you are looking for a frozen quickie though, see if you can find the Bellatoria thin crust pizzas. The grilled vegie one is exceptional - I threw a handful of shrimp on it before I cooked it. Yummy! and NOT cardboard.0 -
friday is my pizza night too :flowerforyou: mmmmmmmm pizza, can't wait! I avoid pepperoni. I don't particularly like it and it's really high in fat, sodium and calories. I go with a vegetarian pizza instead but that's the only change I make. I also tend to throw in an extra workout on day that I have pizza enjoy it!0

Sometimes what happens when you crave something is that you try to fill that gap with something and it doesn't work, and you try something else, and something else, etc etc. In the end you end up eating more of various other things than you would have if you just ate what you wanted in the first place.
Like some of the ppl already said here what I would do is check out some of the calorie/nutritional information on some of the pizza chain websites and make your choice. You could prepare for the pizza by planning a walk/swim/workout/whatever you like that day or the next morning to sort of ease your mind about the treat you are letting yourself have.
Thats just my 0.020 -
We have been ordering pizza and telling them to go easy on the cheese.
We can't tell the difference. Every little bit helps.0 -

Speaking of enjoying the taste of every bite - that's something I am learning how to do, especially with the "treats". I used to wolf down the pizza and barely taste it! Now I am taking a page from Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin philosophy (he has some good ideas, if you take them with a grain of salt) - taking smaller bites, really savouring them and putting the food down between bites - and I really am feeling much more satisfied with smaller portions of what I was craving.0 -
I was watching one of the food shows where they test various food myths. They did one about soaking up the extra grease from pizza. They found it can take about 32 calories off a slice of cheese pizza. I don't like greasy pizza any ways so I've always done it but that can help a bit.0

Trader Joe's has some great frozen and fresh pizzas. The Pizza Olympiad is delicious-it is personal sized, but comes in a pack of 2. I also love their portabella mushroom and garlic pizza, its in the fresh section, so it has to be eaten fairly soon after you buy it. Good Luck!0

Have you tried making your own on flat bread or tortillas? I do mine out on the BBQ sometimes, they turn out really yummy, and they are fairly quick. That way you can control exactly what goes on them as well. Not exactly pizza, but I'm actually enjoying them more than the regular pizza pizza.0

Those Freschetta pizzas has a thin crust fire roasted tomato one that is really good! I don't think it's really high in calories either!0

I agree! I love pizza as well, and since this is a lifestyle change, I know I don't want to go the rest of my life without it! so i still order pizza, i usually order a salad with it, this way I eat my salad first and only eat 1 or 2 slices instead of the 4 i used to eat! plus i make sure to get a good workout in on pizza nights.0 -
Thanks for the tip I just felt guilty as heck eating a piece of papa murphy's pizza but I'm still doing ok today even with it... funny thing was I ate it and it feels like i'm swelling as we speak because of sodium ! Holy cow !
And so we march on0 -
YA, I'm starting to discover that sometimes it's good to eat your old favourites once in awhile....somehow the memory of how good they are tends to be more delicious than the actual thing in the end...and poof! craving gone!0

I was just thinking today about how bad I wanted pizza. I'm too lazy to go to the place that sells it by the slice and I don't dare order a whole pizza. I know I'll be eating it some time in the next month or so and that keeps me chuggin' along without it!
But I agree. Look up the nutritional information whenever you have a chance and pick out what you want even days in advance. Eat and ENJOY!0
