Anyone have a clue as to how many calories are burned splitting wood? I am very time-crunched and have to stop using the ole' treadmill during the winter months (Nov-March) so I can split and stack wood instead. I split about 1/8 a cord a day to keep the winter cold at bay and I am really getting annoyed at having to check the 'does not exercise' spot on my physicals every year. The splitting and stacking takes about 50-60 min.

    Calories Burned

According to the Health Status "Calories Burned Calculator," a person weighing 120 to 149 pounds can burn approximately 165 to 205 calories after chopping wood for 30 minutes. A person weighing 150 to 179 pounds can burn up to 247 calories after chopping wood for 30 minutes. As a person's weight increases, the amount of calories burned chopping wood also increases.

Ronald Reagan used to say that splitting wood warmed a man twice. I am sure it is good exercise for you and provides for your family. Good on ya!
