Did it help you lose weight? even if it was just for a little bit?

I have been a vegetarian for about 15 years, and if anything it can make you put on weight. Dont get me wrong, I would never eat meat, but you substitute meat with carb heavy foods like bread and pasta, to feel full.
Its taken me years to get a proper balanced vegetarian diet and takes creativity in the kitchen. I'm all for people becoming vegetarian though!0 -
I am vegetarian (30+ years) and obese. Vegertarianism is not a weight loss diet. chips, chocolate, pizza, cheeses, breads, double servings. A lot of protein for vegetarians is also a carb.
But please add more vegetables to your diet and go vegetarian if you wish but not to lose weight.0 -
Personally it actually helped me lose weight because I went from eating meat, candy, and fast foods, etc and once I became a vegetarian I started becoming more aware of nutrition in my food and started eating veggies which I never ate before but it is a 2 way street. You can eat meat and be very healthy or unhealthy and you can be a vegetarian and be healthy or unhealthy.0

Regardless of what your overall dietary philosophy is, any diet can be a junk food diet. (And by diet I mean its intended definition - food consumed regularly - not what one eats in order to lose weight). Junk food omni? yep. Junk food vegetarian? Yep. Junk food vegan? Yep. All possible. Regardless of what diet you follow, a varied diet of whole foods is best for your health. But eating in a calorie deficit is what leads to weight loss, regardless of what diet you eat (unless you have medical issues).0

Just like any way of eating, vegetarianism can make you gain or lose weight. Oreos, pop-tarts, regular soda and macaroni and cheese all happen to be vegetarian, but that doesn't make them healthy.
Likewise, a vegetarian diet that relies on whole foods and still considers portion control will likely help you lose weight. Just as with any diet, your food choices and how much you eat will dictate what happens to your body.0 -
I have been vegetarian all my life. If you eat too many carbs and fat you will get fat. Period.
Vegetarianism is good for well being but may not help in weight loss as such..0
