Ummm... so I have been a 36D-38DD since having children.... I have noticed since losing weight my bras and just not holding the girls like they used to.... I took my measurements... and used this site.. http://www.lindasonline.com/bra-fitting-calculator.html....

according to them I am now a size 30 DDD...... or a 30F.... ummmm crazy! That is a huge cup size.... Could they be wrong? I guess I need to go try on the bras...
I just did search at my favorite stores... and they dont even carry a 30 Band size. ugh

    From what I've read, take your measurement under your bust. If it's an even number, add 4. If it's odd, add 5. That's your band size.

    Then for cup size, measure the widest part. The difference between your band size and that measurement determines your cup size.

    I know wikipedia is not always accurate, but this is what I do, and my bras fit every time.

    Maybe those are the measurements for the bras that she sells on her site. I've always done it the way Qarol explained.

    carebear305 - I hear ya... I used to buy either a 36B or a 34 C. But I needed a strapless bra for a wedding I was in and went to a store and the woman told me I was a 32D or DD. I said no way but the bra fit perfectly. (ok... a little tight, but help the ladies way better). I then went to 4 other stores and in each one an older woman helped me and each woman labeled me a 32 D or DD just by eye site... didn't even measure. So, I believe them since they all said the same thing (and all were little old ladies doing this for a long time). :-) I don't think my boobs are that big looking but they do go a bit wide and this size fit all around my boob instead of cutting me off mid side boob. I don't have to constantly adjust the underneath anymore because I am wearing the right size.

    So... you probably did not wear the right size and I am guessing this new one is more correct for you. I have some trouble finding my "new" size too but it does fit way better.

    ok been there! Hey there now:0) Let me just say Victoria really does have a Secret. Go there be sized and let me suggest the incredibra! i now have 3 started with one and as soon as i could afford got 2 more at buy one get one half off! At 48.00 it is an investment but just let me say from a former cheap bra wearer soooo worth it! I didnt know how good my girls could look at 39 and three kids later! good luck, and ask santa for it:0)

    I have never been measured for a bra, maybe I should but from just trying bras on and stuff, I think that I am a DDD. I wouldn't care if I was flat chested. I hope to lose a lot in my chest!!

    If I remember rightly something like 75% of ladies are wearing the wrong size as the cup should cover the breast from half way under your arm pit through to your chest bone .( all depending on style )If its underwired, the wires should sit on the skin and not ride up and straps should be tight enough to slip 2 fingers are them ( this is all through my bra fitter ) when I was 13 stone, I was a 36f/g and now at 10 st 3 I'm now a 34e. Although one side is slightly bigger than the other! xx

    It is likely correct - cup sizes change with band size, so a 34D has a smaller cup then a 36D and the same size cup as a 36C. So if you have lost back fat but not much breast fullness, your bandwidth will decrease, causing your cup size to increase! Clear as mud right!

    36D =34DD = 32DDD - Accounting for a little boob loss that brings you to a 30DDD

    The "measure underbust and add 4" thing NEVER works for me. :( It always ends up with a band size that is far too big. I tend to take my underbust and add 2. That is comfortable, doesn't dig in or ride up in the back.

    I once had a professional fitting and they told me my (carefully calculated, by me) band size was too big, and I've never believed measurements ever since!

    Since manufacturers differ, there's no substitute for trying them on, I think.

    Bra sizes are very esoteric. Like you, I checked my size on a website and they made me a size that doesn't exist in shops - 40B or something. After a proper fitting in a department store, it turns out I'm a 36DD or 36E (UK sizes). I was 38D before I lost weight!

    Custom bra sizes are drastically different from Commercial bra sizes..... I went from a 46DDD to a 42D (so far)....

    I'm lucky to be in an A & when I got fitted for my strapless bra (also was in a wedding!) she has me in a 42C! I was in shock. The lady said those bra's run different then a regular one. I tried on the same size in a regular bra & swam in it! LOL I have a real hard time buying bras because I have a wide body (even when I'm not heavy) but small breasts. I did the measurement thing for bras I ordered and of course, had to send them all back. Grrrrrr...

    36D cup is much bigger than 30D cup. If you lost weight everywhere except your breasts, it's natural that you would have a smaller band size and a seemingly (but not actually) bigger cup size. :)

    I went from 40C to 34C. My boobs have definitely gotten smaller, even though the cup size is still a C.

    I'd really suggest going to a bra-specific store and having them help you find the bra that fits you.

    I'm nearly impossible to find a bra for, because mine are too big for my actual body size (36M, 5'2"), and I'm awaiting consultation for reduction. I was wearing DD's for at least two years before I was finally able to go to a professional place (The Bra Barn, specifically) and get proper bras in the size -I- needed, which was at the time 30-something H. My mother didn't believe, beforehand, that I was anything over DD. I wasn't very happy with her. :/

    Plus, different bra brands size differently. You could be one size in one, but different in another. That's what I recommend going to a specialty store so they can help you.

    I live in the UK where we are lucky enough to have fabulous shops which offer professional fittings for free with no obligation to buy. A 30F is not too big, considering companies such as Freya and Panache offer sports bras up to a 30H cup (my size!) and high street stores such as Bravissimo go up to an L cup, so there is plenty of choice available, just perhaps not in your local shops.

    If may be worth hunting down a specialist shop to try on different brands of bras to find out you size, then maybe looking online to buy them at a lower price. And please do invest in a decent sports bra to protect your assets ;) Bare in mind that the US bra sizes are slightly different to UK sizing, but charts are available.

    Also, the measuring and adding 4 is an outdated method of bra fitting which came from when bra backs were stiffer and less elastic. Check out these blog posts about it, and some good fitting advice and bra reviews:

    So I used to think I wore a 42 DDD or FF, I just thought the ladies were supposed to be squished together. I went to a bra store that measured me like you did (measuring tape, etc) and then I tried on a wide variety of bras in my new size 40 J. Yes, that's a Jay. But I have to say, my bras are more comfortable than they ever have been, that I don't have heat rashes in the same way, they each have their own space and stay in it while not jiggling around.

    All in all, I'd have to say that it's worth a try. I have found fabulous sports bras which have allowed me to do yoga again and I even have pretty sexy bras that are ALSO practical.

    It's not about the size, it's about the fit. It's always about the fit.

    Thanks for all the help ladies... I will have to see if I can find a specialty shop. I just moved here a few months ago so I have no idea where one would be lol.... I also want to continue to lose about 30-35 more pounds... maybe I should just buy one or two in the new size since I might possibly get smaller.

    I did my own measurments according to some website and it said I was a 36 B which is so wrong! I have a 38B for lingeire and that is the only time I wear it because my boobs explode out of the top of them! I have always wore a 36D and I went to victoria secret and the lady there told me a 36 D. The best bras I have found are actually from walmart. I think the brand is sweet nothings push up strapless. I did not want to pay $50+ for a bra so I just got a few of the ones from walmart and they fit perfectly and they are the only brand and style that fit that good. As for victoria secret, my hubby bought me two bra and panty sets when we went on black friday, I got a 36D in the very sexy and the miracalous bras and they fit pretty good and make my boobs look a lot better because they are actually up where they are supposed to be. I tend to find that regular cut bras don't fit as well as strapless bras or bras with a deep plunge. If you have doubts go get fitted for one.

    I have to drive about 30 minutes, it might be a little more, to go get fitted and get bras. BUT I was wearing the wrong size, this was years ago. It is best to just have the ladies there do the measuring and fitting. I can always order online after that. Well as long as I don't keep dropping sizes which I am doing.

    This is what happened to me! I lost 3 cups sizes first, then my band sized decreased and pushed me back up a full cup size.
