I have a desk job and I really like my job but I am trying to fit in some extra ways to be a bit more active during the day. Any suggestions?
So far I have been working on getting up every 1-1/2 hours at least and taking a short, 5 minute walk or so. I am also starting to walk on my lunch break for about 20 minutes

I've heard that switching your chair with a stability ball helps.

Sit on a huge exercise ball in place of your desk chair for at least 20 mins a day. Great on your abs, posture and proper breathing. It's funny but if you don't care what others think do it. I did it for a few years.

I've been at my desk job for almost 6 yrs, I feel ur pain. Majority of my weight gain is from sitting down for 8 hrs and luckily my job has a free gym and showers on the first floor. What I've been doing lately is walking around the parking lot on my breaks or take the stairs.

wear a pedometer and start setting goals of getting in X number of steps and keep increasing by, say, 500 per week more from where you've started. drink plenty of water and that may require more trips to the bathroom which is more walking. maybe google cube yoga or something like that to get some exercises you can do in your cube without moving a ton. I have a coworker who has a weight in his cube and he does X number of curls an hour just to take a little break.

I've been looking into getting a stability ball desk chair as well.

I get up every so often and just take a nonchalant stroll around the floor, lol, plus parking at the furthest edge of the parking lot. I also keep my lunch/perishable snacks in the top floor's breakroom fridge so that I have to walk up stairs every day to get my lunch and afternoon yogurt snack. Not to mention drinking tons of water every day makes me get up and have to walk to the bathroom at least once per hour.

I totally do the water thing! I spend quite a bit of time walking to and from the bathroom, and to and from the breakroom (getting my water).

Yes!! Our HR director does this and she says it does wonders.
