Well once again I am asking for help. I have hit a platue at the gym. My heart rate is steady now at 133 or 134 and I need it to be higher. I am doing alot of the hill's on the tread mill. I lost a good 20 something pounds in 3 months now I need to change things up for another 20. I am open to sugestions.

I just don't want to hit the wall and not be able to finish what I started. Thank you in advance.

  • Spin Class? Spin bikes can give you a good workout :D Or maybe a stair climber? Just do some different equipment and exercises to change up.
  • okay thank you, what do you think about weights too?

Why do you think you need to get your heart rate higher than that? You do realize their is an adaptive phase in cardio where your body becomes more efficient and your body doesn't require as much effort to produce the same results.

Have you tried intervals? 1 min sprint, 1min, speed walk high elevation, 1min jog mid elevation, then go to the bicycles and do 5 to 10 mins spinning.

I think adding weights is a good idea. Muscle will burn more calories than fat so the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn just in your everyday life. If you don't have much experience with weights, you may want to ask your gym if they'll give you a session with a trainer for free (so they can get you started). A lot of gyms offer this when you first start going and if you didn't take them up on it then, they may let you do it now. If that doesn't work, trainers are often wandering around on the floor and one by one you can ask them to 'check' your form on a machine (and they'll make sure you're doing it correctly : )

Also, the suggestion for intervals is good - that makes the workout fly by!

Definitely change up your workout routine. I also think intervals are a good idea when you are on those cardio machines.
  • I talked to a trainer at the gym and that's what she said. I need to change it up because my heart rate has been steady for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I'm worried that I will flat line and not lose any more weight. I can work out a lot but I don't know if Im doing right or not. I have looked into getting a trainer but they are so expensive. I just cant do it right now.
  • I have just worked up to do 3.1 on the treadmill with out getting winded. I will try though.
  • i have to say............ive never ben to a jym in my life. I do exercise buy never at a gym

Your gym has rowing machine? Iit's the best cardio workout. It will help you build muscle at the same time including the ab.
    Pain free also.

Interval work out is the way to go.
When you are on your treadmil, push yourself as hard than you can, then go slow to recover and
then repeat again. You will burn more fat and it will improve your heart rate.
At least one or twice every 2 week, do other excise or machine since your body is adapt to it so your muscle won't work hard as before. If you like treadmill, switch just a day to bicyle, stepmaster, elliptical.

How do you feel about swimming - great for cardio and strength, easy on the joints and a good all round workout!
  • I tried swiming and a swim class or 2 but just didn't feel like it did anything for me, same goes for spin class
