30 lbs in 6 months 3 lbs in 6 months

For the first 6 months of the year I was clipping along losing 30 pounds. However, I have "lost" (actually +/- 3-5 pounds) in the last 6 months since then. I am at the high end of my "healthy" BMI, but I would like to get to the middle of that range and not teeter on the edge any longer. This is a comfortable weight for my body since I have spent much of my adult life right in this range (160's) but I WANT to get to the low 150's if not in the 140's. I do not know how to break such an awful 6 months of weight loss. Life is good--I have started running and I am finding that my endurance has increased quite a bit. I have added this with my regular eliptical routines and weight training at the gym. Still...I am not finding the weight loss I am really working for. I joined a BL competition at work and have lost a few--but just to get me back to where I was 6 months ago. ANY SUGGESTIONS on how to break this LLOOOONNNNGGGG plateau. I have done what I have read on here...consume more calories, work out more, change routines, change diet, etc etc. Anything else. Or is this all my body will let me do? This is such a long plateau that I really am getting discouraged that I will ever be able to meet my goal of 150. Please send any info that has helped for you.

You probably already do this but remember to weigh and measure all your food and get plenty of water. Also, if you don't already have one, consider getting a heart rate monitor to better measure your calorie burns.0

It sounds like you are doing the right things, which makes me wonder if your goal is maybe too aggressive. Have you ever heard of a DXA (or DEXA) scan? It is a highly accurate body scan that analyzes your muscle, bone and fat content and gives you a definitive idea of your ideal body weight. The cost at my local place is $90, though I am on the "other" coast. Might be worth looking at to see if your goal is right for your body composition.0

I burn about 880-900 in 65 minutes on the elliptical at least 5 days a week. I run about 3-6 miles 1-2 times a week. Plus I spend 45 minutes doing weight machines at the gym 2x week. In the last few months I have increased my running and added more intensity in the gym. I also eat 1200 (usually another 100-150 more) each day. Doing all this--on paper---the weight should be falling off me.0

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I am VERY bad at drinking a lot of water. I know that is one draw back...I probably get my 64 oz a day but I know I should be getting way more for the exercise I do and weight loss I desire. As far as HRM any suggestions. I was looking into one...but the guy at the gym said they are hughly inaccurate for they do not account for metabolism etc. Any you find pretty trustworthy?0

I will look into the DEXA. I DO wonder if I am where my body needs to be. People around me who see the weight loss are in disbelief that I could lose (or even want to) another 20lbs. I was in the 140's 13 years ago and it was a good weight for me. I was on the "lean" side of the scale for a fat comp test. I was muscular too then. I would love to go back there. I have had 3 kids (one of them being 12 pounds and 2ft long)and I believe there are some places that will not return to that former shape but...I want to try. Thanks for your help.0

I found that I had to eat my exercise calories. If your net calories are under 1200/day, you will not lose.0

I use the Polar FT80 HRM and love it. It allows you to track cardio and weight training and even allows you to enter your weight training workouts in to the HRM to keep track of your sets. I have found the efficiency and effectiveness of my workouts to be far better than without it. The online program that the HRM uploads to is pretty good and does a great job of making sure you are not overtraining or under training. It is a little pricey ($230 or so from a couple of online retailers) but I like mine so much I just ordered one for my wife for Christmas (she has been jealous ever since I got mine). Hope that helps.0

*sigh* this is just not true. Not everyone is punched from the same cookie cutter shape. In the past 3 months I have lost close to 40 pounds, and only 14 days out of 3 months did I meet (or exceed)1200 calories per day.
Before I get slammed for that, I have to say I am following a special diet and being monitored by a doctor.
To the OP, maybe switch up your macros? Less sugar and carbs more protein? that is just an idea shaking up your system...I didn't look at your diary.0
