I just don't understand it. I just started taking Phentermine a week and a half ago and it curbs my appetite. I am set to eat 1200 calories a day and struggle to get to it since I have no appetite. I come pretty close though like between 1000 and 1175. I started drinking 64 oz of water a day like I'm supposed to and yet I still am not losing, in fact I gained back the 1 lb I lost!!! What the hell is going on?!?

I keep gaining and losing the same 1-2 lbs over and over again. I'm extremely depressed and frustrated, angry, etc... I just don't understand it. Can someone please help me?

My first question is how did you get phentermine? I used to take it but I don't think my doctor is allowed to continue prescribing it?..?.. Anyway, it may take your body a couple of weeks to get that signal to start losing weight. Also, consider the water weight... every 16 oz. of water you don't expel is 1 pound on the scale. I would lay off the scale and just gauge it on how well your clothes are fitting.

One other thing it may be... 1200 is too little for your body and is going into starvation mode. However, it will eventually adapt and you will start losing. Give it time! Stay positive!

She is absolutely right, your body takes time to loose weight, an my opinion 1200 calooreis is a tad bit to low I was 1400 and bow 1500 intake and I have lost 23lbs so keep it up

    you are 37 years old

    you are overweight

you have been taking a drug to lose weight for one and a half weeks and no progress

and you are crying about it?

how did you make it this far?

did you put on the weight in 2 weeks?

Good GOD ........do you expect the weight to just fall off in 2 weeks?

    is this a bad joke?
  • My doctor prescribed it to me so I'm assuming it's still okay to prescribe. So do you think I should go up to 1400 cal/day instead of 1200 that was recommended to me? And if I stay at 1200, will my body eventually come out of "starvation mode"?

  • There is absolutely no need to get rude! I'm frustrated because I keep reading on all these people who are losing tons of weight and some within the 1st couple of weeks, so I wonder, why not me?

Deep breath...let it alll go Dave!

As an RN, I have to warn you to be careful with the drugs...they're getting recalled all the time. Just because its on the market and a doctor prescribed it doesn't mean its safe.

If you've been a yo-yo dieter or tried other extreme measures in the past, you metabolism may be out of whack.

Do you know how many calories you eat each day?

Do you include 'eating' the calories burned by exercise - important to do so your body has enough fuel to exercise and maintain your metabolism

Stop comparing yourself and your preceived success/failure to others. Its a recipe for failure.
Only compare you to you. No one else. "People are losing tons of weight..." Get over it! Treat your body well and nurture it while its trying to lose weight.

You don't say if you exercise or not. You have to exercise to boost your metabolism. PLUS exercising can naturally curb your appetite without drugs. Be careful with the drugs, once you go off of them you could very well regain the weight you lost plus.

SHE'S RIGHT really cant compare yourself to other's on here because everyone is diffrent . I lost 16 pounds so far and i started back in Feb . at a pond week and i saw that onother lady same age and weight that i started at but she lost 20 pounds in like a month in a half of being here so yah it makes you question your self but just rember you can do this and keep going and you will loose the weight to  :flowerforyou:
  • Thanks everyone. I will try to remember to not compare myself to others. It just seems so frustrating at times, that's all.

I just noticed on other threads that in addition to the current weight loss drug you are on you have also taken hydroxy cut and alli

so that is at least three different drugs you have taken to lose weight fast

you seem to be looking for the quick fix

    it doesnt exist

    eat good and exercise hard

getting extremely depressed because you havent lost weight in 10 days is setting yourself up for nothing but trouble

quit taking the drugs and start working out

    read the newbie posts
  • Yes you're right except for the quick fix part. I have tried Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem too which also didn't help me. I'm not necessarily looking for a quick fix but rather a good jump start to losing weight. But like I said, nothing has worked for me in the past and that's another reason I'm frustrated.

I try to workout a bare minimum of 3 days a week, and more if I can fit in the time since I have a young son and a business to run with my husband.

    Hi Bellydancer!

I saw the weights you posted at the bottom of your post: SW 161 CW 160 GW 135. Don't be frustrated that the weight isn't coming off right away. The beginning of my weight loss journey looked like this:

    SW: 164
    week 1: 162
    week 2: 160.5
    week 3: 160.5
    week 4: 160.5
    week 5: 159
    week 6: 159
    week 7: 159

So I lost weight pretty quickly to start and then hit some serious walls. Just keep eating healthy, exercise as much as you can (even if its just a brisk walk after dinner). I'm not on any drugs or anything, but I can see changes in the weeks even when the scale doesn't budge.

    Good luck!

you have to remember that you don't have much weight to lose. with age comes a resistance to weight loss too.. and the less you need to lose the harder it is to get it off. I have been at almost a standstill for over 6 weeks, 2 lbs lost and that is after I lost 8 lbs that first 6 weeks. It is frustrating but you just have to hold on and keep pushing forward. I walk/run 4 to 5 days a week and am active with a 3yr old, a 14yr old with CPalsy, and a husband so I know how hard it is to fit it all in, just keep yourself moving towards your goal and don't give up. Please be careful with the drugs, none of that stuff has ever worked for me, I have to do it the old fashioned way, hard work..... Good luck to you...

Put the scale away please. Like Dave said, it could take a month to see results. Also make sure you are adding in some weights 2-3 times a week.. :flowerforyou:

I used Phentermine for a limited period of time about 6 years ago. My doctor was no longer able to prescribe it, and as a result of my "drug" use I ended up with a heart murmur. Obviously if I knew then what I knew now I never would have taken it, it helped screw up my health, my metabolism (even more) and when I stopped taking it I ballooned back up in no time flat. Hopefully they've made great strides with that stuff. Good luck!
