Pre Workout Snacks

Hi Guys,
I was wondering what low-cal things you all eat before a workout. I usually eat lean proteins, nuts (almonds typically), or low fat cottage cheese. I don't do protein drinks.
Tonight I am going to do either a 45 minute spin class or 45 minutes on the elliptical and then have my trainer for an hour so want to make sure I eat enough.
Thanks for suggestions!

A buddy of mine, carries Jelly Beans with him when he runs. Just an idea.0

Thanks jhawk!
You're buddy sounds like a smart guy -- I wish I wasn't trying to stray away from processed foods. Grapes would be a good sub for me, but they are a bit bulkier than jelly bellys!0 -
Apple chunks with almonds..you got your natural carbs with protien to help fuel your body.0

In my studies (& my own run training), the most important meal is what you eat approximately 30 minutes after working out.
Personally, I almost never eat before, even when doing longer runs. If I do eat prior to exercise it's a light snack, a piece of fruit, a yogurt or my personal favourite...coffee! However, if the exercise exceeds 60 minutes I pack a gel and double my hydration (nothing more than 100 calorie pick me up to help keep fueled). Afterward, I always have WATER, then load up on protein & carbohydrates, for that combination will repair muscle, rehydrate & replenish depleted glycogen stores.
Although the post-workout meal is essential for athletes, this practice is deemed "not as important" for the recreational fitness enthusiast, BUT it is good practice to get into. We only get one life & one body, why not take care of it while we have it, right?0 -
I eat something small 100-130 calories that will give some a good burst of quick energy but has a bit of staying power too.
Right now i am liking the mini lara bars, or I buy a whole lara or other fruit and nut bar and cut it in half. It has some sugar/carbs and a bit of protein. I try to stay away from anything with too much fiber so I don't feel bloated when running.0 -
I work out in the am...I can't eat a lot of food, otherwise I feel sick...
I usually have coffee...and then either 1/2 plain bagel, or packet of oatmeal, or banana....I usually run for an hour and then take a fitness class and then finish up with some strenght training...
I am hungry when I get home, so that is when I eat....0 -
I usually pop a babybel cheese. Sometimes I eat half a Lara Bar, eat the other half on the way home from the gym.0
