logging things like cleaning and food prep as cardiovascular exercise?

I personally don't even consider it exercise unless I break a sweat and get at least a little winded.

Exercise definition:

Exercise is physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body. Exercise is used to improve health, maintain fitness and is important as a means of physical rehabilitation.

I don't log things like that. I do log heavy yard work, like shoveling, wheelbarrowing and spreading mulch. But I don't log trimming the bushes or sealing the deck. I don't log housecleaning, even when it's a heavy duty cleaning. I don't log walking around the mall. I log exercise as defined by what you included in the OP.

I agree. And I often wonder when people say they aren't losing weight if they are eating calories "burned" doing things that should already be included in their daily activity level when they set up their account.

When you sign up for MFP, it asks you what your regular day is (active, lightly active, couch potato etc) If you input lightly active or active, that takes into account your everyday cleaning, cooking etc. So you already "logged" it.

I have seen some people claim huge calorie burns doing the same workout I do and for less time. I do think people overestimate their calories burned and their calories taken in. But they are only fooling themselves. Eventually they'll get it. I hope for their sakes that they do.

I'm with you - only exercise counts as exercise for me, but I could not care less what others do.

I don't. But I also don't care what other people do unless they're whining to me about not losing.

To above - It is possible that they can lose more calories than you for less periods of time, as I have found out through me AND my husband having heart monitors. Height, weight and heart rate during exercise are all taken into account. I've learned this with my husband. I am 5 feet tall and he is six foot three. I weigh 155, he weighs around 300. He definitely burns more calories than me and we work out the same time....sometimes he will do less time than me....same workout. That being said I will also do the same work out and depending on how hard I work my butt off sometimes I burn more or less calories. That's why I love my hear rate monitor.
