I'm going to start hardcore recording what I put into my body. What foods are good and what foods do I need to absolutely stay away from? White bread: isn't that bad for you?

You should try to change all your breads to more complex types...whole grain is the best. Also, you will learn as you enter things into your food diary how much they are costing you. Try to eat real whole foods found along the outside not the middle aisles of the grocery store. You can eat tons of vegetables and they will fill u up and give u fibre and nutients. Try to go without sauces on things. Just eat what you are eating but try to make each thing one step healthier. If u are going out for fast food skip the fries and skip the sauce and that will help a lot. Try small changes to the things u already like to eat. If u drink pop u should definately cut it out. One piece of pizza instead of two. Start small and u will learn from the diary. Good luck!

I eat all the same foods I ate "before" but I keep a tight eye on portions.

I've also added a lot more fruits and veggies and high fiber food.

It's been my experience that if you start making foods "off limits", you're just going to crave them more and eventually get off your diet. Just be honest with yourself in your food diary!

Ok. So basically it's about portion control, too. And no, I don't drink pop. I quit that over a year ago, and I lost at least 15 pounds, without exercising or eating right. Strange...

I don't believe that you crave a food and indulge because you've eliminated it from your diet. I think that's hogwash, it's an excuse to eat poorly. And yes you may even lose weight whilke still eating poorly because you are eating less, it doesn't mean that it's good for you, that it won't bite you in the *kitten* later on in life healt wise. Once you make healthier food choices, watching what you eat, knowing that this is what is fueling your body, this is what is going to make you live longer, less health implications, you will see how important it is. Those cravings for the "bad foods" actually do go away. You need to train your body, and your brain which send you those signals to readapt. giving in to the cravings isn't in your best interest. It boils down to, eat food, not alot, mostly plants. Whole grains, lot of veggies...fruits, lean cuts of meat, dairy, wach your sodium intake, exercise, be positive about life and your goals, you'll get there, it's a learning process, with lifelong health benefits.

Forgot to include this earlier...there is a tip I heard that may help ...when shopping at the market, shop around the periphery of the store...meat/chicken/fish....dairy....fresh produce....whole grain bread/healthy breads aisle...its common that the most processed stuff is in the 'aisles' and the healthier stuff is around the perimeter.
