Atkinsesque diet - Net Carbs

Confused on calculating "net" carbs for a low low carb diet. I have fallen into 20 gramsof carbs this week and wonder if I just blew it by eating an EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control bar - 230 calories, 26 g carbs, 5 g fiber, 2 g Sugars,19 g Sugar Alcohols and 17 g of protein. The package reads 2 g "NET" carbs, but from what I have been reading Atkins does not take into account the sugars - Carbs-Fiber = 21 g of total carbs.

Net carbs are calculated by subtracting the fiber from the Carbs leaving a net carb count. In the Advantedge bars they also subtract the sugar alcohols as they claim they do not have a profoound impact on the blood sugar. I'm on Atkins and do not use any of the convenience products because they send me out of Ketosis and make me stall. The sugar alcohols impact myself and many others just like sugar. I eat pretty clean and leave the frankenfoods out. Atkins really helps me with cravings and I've lost 32 pounds since October.

ATkins subtracts the sugar alcohols, which is what EAS does also. However, some people do metabolize sugar alcohols the same as regular sugar, so it can stall out your weight loss.0 -

I agree with leaving the processed foods alone!!
As Dr Atkins mentioned in his books that REAL food is the way to go. Those bars and shakes and crap should be left to only extreme emergency situations.
Eat protein (meat, eggs, cheese, greek yogurt), green leafy vegetables, other vegetables off the induction list and drink lots of water, coffee and herbal teas.
Real, clean food!!! Plan, plan, plan ahead so you don't get into the situation of having to rely on those bars and shakes.0 -
Thanks for the advice! I typically don't eat processed type foods however, I am disgusted with eating so much chicken/fish. I was really looking for ways to get around eating another bite of meat and needed another protein source. I have another 10 lbs. to go and really fell into this ketosis thing b/c of a challenge I am doing at my gym - final weigh in on Saturday! If I'm out of ketosis - so be it. One more fricken full day and I'm DONE!!
Maybe I'll revisit after the new year to jumpstart things for the new year.
So is the EAS bar really counted at 2 grams of Carbs?0 -

Technically Yes, but like I said some people's bodies do digest sugar alcohols as real sugar. Depends on your individual body.0
