i just received my heart rate monitor and i did my workout today. 15 min on the treadmill as a warm up, then my 20 min 30DS video and then 15 min on the elliptical. My total was about 1/2 from what this site has it set for? why such a HUGE difference. so for 55min total of exercise i only burned 230 cal?

What kind do you have? Did it include a chest strap?0

To the best of my knowledge, the online estimation is almost always massively over guessed. I'm not sure why, i just know that its usually quite an over estimate. For some exercisesi have found it under estimates and for others it over estimates, but i think for most exercises you will find the online ones hugely different, as it is after all only estimate and it assumes you are doing a certain level of work0

so then i have been eating too much? maybe that's why i haven't lost weight! :< grrrr.... I figured b/c it asks your age, height, weight it would be more accurate then the machines themself. I know my machines are way above what this site says, so i always went by this site and now to find out that this site was way off too doesn't impress me! I have tried so hard to eat my 1200 calories especially when i exercise, eating back those calories but now i find out i was eating back too many calories! sheesh.... I just found it hard to believe that after a 55 min workout that i only burned 230 calories, it seemed a bit low. but i guess i will go with that, and then that just means i will be eating less back!
i bought a MIO classic0 -
I wouldnt get discouraged just yet, it is possible its your heart rate monitor and im no expert, but that is what i have heard. But its quite possible thats why your not loosing weight, i know that for walking im sorta half way between two speeds and the lower speed is under what i actually burn but the higher speed is a lot more (eg i walk at around 4.25mph and in an hour burn around 400 calories, on mfp 4mph says id burn 353 calories, but 4.5mph says id burn 444). Other exercises mfp WAY over estimated like rollerblading but mostly because i dont go as fast as it assums i am. wait and see if you get a few more responses from ppl who know more than me just to be sure. If i am right, just be gld you now know and can really track exactly what your doing. I am sure you will find the weight falling off soon.0

Don't get discouraged. Use one or the other as your guide. (I will probably use the one here for consistency). They all have different formula in their software. If you have an opportunity to do a VO2 max or a lactate threshold it would be more accurate and then you know what the correction factor is.0

ya i hope so, i figured especially with teh 30ds dvd as it makes you work hard, that i would of burned more but i was surprised that id din't burn anywhere near what i thought i would. so maybe that was my whole problem in the 1st place, the MFP had it upped too much and i hope like you said that i will see the weight falling off me now0

what is a vo2 max or lactate threshold?0 -
basically just pay attention to when your breathing starts to change, just to the point where you can talk but not easily and thats your lactate threshold. stay just shy of that and you will burn fat and build a huge aerobic base.0

Thats a super helpful tip!!!!!!!!! I'm on week 3 of c25k so as the weeks progress I will keep this tip in mind!!!!0 -
Seems like the MIO is just a watch HRM... which is not as accurate as a chest strap addition. I would try to go with what is says for the next couple weeks and see if there is any change in your BF% or weight. If so, like you said, maybe you were eating back too much per the inaccurate guidance of calorie burn on MFP. See what happens, then go from there.0

how can these new watch hrm say they are just as accurate if there are not?0

I find I always err on the side of caution with this site when it comes to working out exercise burn eg. if I do an hour of cardio, I'll input it as 45 mins, usually. If I walk for half an hour, I'll input it as 15 or 20 mins and then I try not to eat back all my exercise calories. I'll eat back some of them if I'm hungry but I'll try to not eat back them all. Then, it doesn't matter so much if the site is out with the calculations, I'll hopefully still keep losing weight.0
