Just wondering if others have been in a similar situation and what they did to solve it.

I am generally happy since I lost about 8 stone in 2010. My weight seems to be stuck between 15 stone and 16.5 stone though. Every now and again I get some motivation together to push down in to the 14 stone area and when I get there I look and feel great, which then ends with me letting my guard down and sliding all the way back up to something like 15.5 stone or even higher to 16.5 stone.

It's been going like this since about November 2010 and I am, to be honest, getting tired of it. I found myself looking at prices for gastric surgery last night because I just wanted to give up - hand over the responsibility to the gastric band because I just felt like I will never be able to trust myself around food. It just felt better to make it so I had no choice.

I'm just getting fed up of the constant loss and gain cycle; it's been over a year now and it's getting really tiring and depressing. I've tried seeing eating disorder therapists, but don't feel like they 'get me', I've had counselling but it didn't go deep enough, I've even tried hypnosis, which although very relaxing didn't do anything for me. I've tried a personal trainer, running in the street and doing a half marathon. I've read "Overcoming Overeating" and tried the Dukan Diet and a range of other plans including Weight Watchers. I've even tried going back on to LighterLife for a while.

On the one hand I am delighted that I haven't put all my original weight back on and that I manage within a 1.5 stone "zone" but on the other I am thoroughly depressed that I can't seem to get to the 14st 0lb figure I really want nor can I seem to stay close to it.

I lost 40lbs and then just couldnt get any lower. I also would drop down but I would always come back to 143-147. This happened for a solid 3yrs. Which isnt bad because I had lost alot of weight and kept it off but i wanted to lose another 10lbs more.

I got a traveling job for 10months and couldnt really count calories or exercise as obsessively as I had been doing the years since I lost the weight. I still watched my portion size and I stayed the same. When I got done with the job I wanted to try and lose some weight again (even tho I had gained none) so I picked up my old exercise habits and BANG I lost 10lbs in a month!

So what I'm saying is maybe you should take a short two week diet break. Watch your portion sizes but maybe after the break your body will be shocked when you start dieting and exercising as hard as (I'm assuming) you do now.
  • Take it from someone who's got a gastric band: you cannot hand over responsibility to a tool! As sad and disappointing as it sounds... You would still need to watch like a hawk what you eat and exercise a lot.

I've lost nearly 50lbs in 6 months with my band, but if I would give up the control and "hand it over" to my band I would end up gaining all back... I can easily gain 5-10 lbs in a week if I'm on holiday and not watching food and putting in sweat.

I believe 8 stones is a very good loss. Enjoy it! I understand the need to be in the "fourteens", but don't forget where you come from: you've already achieved a lot. Give yourself credit for that, and I'm sure you will find a way to tackle that last couple of pesky pounds.

OP you are a carbon copy of me (I'm actually back on Weight Watchers again, but love the boards and support I get here)! I'm starting to get fed up too... so I feel your pain. I will keep tabs on this thread to see what sort of advice you get... good luck to you. You've done so well... too bad we can't just love ourselves enough to keep it going.

... And Thop123, I would be terrified to not count--I feel I would gain a TON back not counting. Your advice is really good, and I've had a similar weight loss journey (lost 42 lbs, have gained a little back with weight lifting, still the same measurement, but want to get down a solid 10 lbs, but just can't!). I really should try that though...
