I can't believe I'm doing this...

Hi Everyone! I'm new on this site and I'm hoping, no trying, to make a change. I've never joined an internet-based weight loss support group, but I'm willing to try anything and I have to start sometime! My weight just hit the "obese" category on the BMI scale, but I don't see myself that way, maybe that's part of the problem. I know I'm overweight, but I can't seem to get enough willpower to do it on my own. What is especially frustrating is that my husband can lose 10-20 pounds whenever he wants by "just not finishing everything on my plate". Well, no duh! I can do that too, but it just doesn't happen for me. I even go to the gym. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know some people and hopefully learn some "tricks of the trade" .

Haha, I can certainly empathize with that one. My husband can make the slightest of changes and his pounds will melt off.

I used to be able to do that when I was younger but ever since I hit 30, it stopped happening that way for me. So I'm stuck doing all the work now. :grumble:

Thanks guys for the welcome. Has anyone done the Wii Fit and gotten any results? I was thinking that maybe I would get the Jillian Michaels one for the Wii, but I am still undecided. I could use some meal ideas, maybe weight watchers based if anyone has any. again, thank you!!
  • This is the first internet based group I had ever joined either. It was a little scary at first, but then I realized how much we a alot alike. The support is great too!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Hi, and welcome to THE best site on the web!
Between the easy to use food counter (which by the way is SUCH an eye opener!) and all the wonderfully supportive members, you WILL be able to lose the weight that you want to, AND, it'll "almost" be easy doing it!
I recommend logging ALL your foods BEFORE you have them, rather than later, as it tends to lead to better food choices. (not to mention you'll know if you've got enough numbers left to have a night time snack, like I ALWAYS try to do!) Some people also like to weigh and measure some things, such as meats, rather than just estimating and possibly being WAY off!
Also, drink LOTS of water, it REALLY DOES help! :drinker:

Yeah, the calorie counter certainly is an eye opener!! I decided to eat lunch and THEN join and I typed in everything I had for Breakfast and lunch and I'm aready 200+ calories over my goal!! I couldn;t believe it!! I should've known better, Chinese food is a killer and I only ate half of what I ordered!!

Hi there! Welcome to the wonderful world of MFP. It is annoying how guys seem to drop weight so much quicker than us girls.

Wii Fit is great, if you use it regularly. I have heard ALOT of bad things about the quality of the Jillian Micheal's game, I'd recommend checking out some reviews and ratings before you buy it. Boxing on Wii Sports (the game that comes with the Wii when you buy it) is my favorite workout. My Fitness Coach is great too.

There are a lot of ppl on this board that have lots of valuable knowledge. Read the sticky threads (the ones at the top of the forums with little thumb tacks next to them) when you get a chance.

    Good luck!

Yup, Chinese food is about the "worst" there is, especially because of all the sodium!! But, I still try to have it once a month, or at least every other month anyway. That's the best thing about MFP, you CAN have whatever you want, you're NOT deprived. You've just gotta learn how to manage your eating better MOST of the time, and also allow for treats now and then so that you don't just give up. That's the way I was on every other "diet" I've ever been on. MFP ISN'T a diet though, it's a "lifestyle change", and once you're watching your numbers and getting in some exercise, you WILL lose the weight that you want to, even with eating "bad" stuff now and then!!!

Welcome aboard, it's cool, it works, I'm hooked.

Diet food ideas? Hungry Girl books. That gal's a genius.

This program really is amazing because there are no questions, no fiddling, no suffering - this just works. I log everything, do 30min a day on the elliptical, eat my calories and drink (most of) my water and I drop 8 to 10 pounds a month. If you can stick with it it will work for you.
