    Muscle weighs more than fat is a perfectly acceptable thing to say and is accurate. It's the same as saying, "rocks weigh more than feathers." Nobody is saying that a 1 pound of something weighs more than 1 pound of something. Don't be dense (pun intended).
    You are correct up until your "Nobody is saying...." statement. The debate over the weight difference between 10 pounds of muscle and 10 pounds of fat (as well as 10 pound barbells and 10 pound reams of paper) has erupted on MFP multiple times. So clarity is needed.

    I agree. But the Campaign to Eradicate Silliness from the Internets was way underfunded and failed miserably.

    I agree with your sentiment. I think the behavior can sometimes resemble the arguing tactic "in your opinion."

    This actually cleared up alot for me. I had already planned to ignore my BMI number once I was down to 200 to 220 being 6.0 feet because I was able to under stand that a 215 lb person with muscle will look totally different than 215 lb person with fat. Although BMI would consider me overweight I would be very healthy with a very low body fat percentage and a better H toW ratio.. This chat reinforced my thought process. Full steam ahead!

    It is highly unlikely you put on muscle that quickly. You create tears in your muscles when you work out. Your body holds onto water to heal them; this is how you get stronger. It's just water. You didn't gain that much fat or muscle over night.

    Exactly. Putting on muscle takes hard work and a good diet. You don't just accidentally do it xD
    In most cases it takes a calorie surplus too

    It's the same as "What's heavier a pound of feathers or a pound of lead." It takes much less lead to get to a pound than feathers.

    It's a play on words. Hasn't anyone ever pulled one over on you with the whole "what weighs more, a lb of feathers or a lb of bricks?"
  • Wow I really opened a bad topic!!! I apologize. I guess I didn't know it had been discussed before. I get pound and volume are different. Yes clarity is needed but I get it now!!!
