okay so i only like eggs scrambled DRY and if you put a fried egg on my plate i might punch you in the face LOL...

but seriously, i know that eggs are not the best choice (everyday at least) but they are not the worst either when it comes to breakfast foods.....someone suggested instead of using egg beaters or "real" eggs to try the egg whites in the carton but i just can't get past the fact that they are WHITE!!!!!! it reminds me of the slimy slippery part of the egg and i dont know if i can put them in my mouth....

help me, what do i do with them??? can i just make a scrambled egg white like i would a scrambled egg and just not "look" at it as i eat it?? does it taste the same as a regular egg with the yolk???

i like to eat an english muffin with ham and cheese on occasion for breakfast, who am i kidding, i ate that every morning for like 4 years in a row - like my own little mcmuffin - but the sodium was out of control so i thought i could switch out the ham for the egg white and still add a slice of cheese or some shredded 2% cheddar while it is cooking to give it the "yellow" coloring i think i so desperately need to get over the damn WHITE egg issue i clearly have, thoughts??

thanks in advance, denise

There's nothing wrong with eggs every day. Some think they're bad for you if you have high cholesterol, so if that's the case you should talk to your doctor, but research is now showing that the cholesterol in eggs isn't bad for you and it's ok to eat them. All the good stuff is in the yolk. :)
  • I use one whole egg and the 1-2 whites. It keeps the 'bad stuff' down and pumps up the protein. Plus - it's yellow! :)

Add a little chopped turkey bacon, veggies and some 2% cheese and it's pretty darn good! I don't even miss the rest of the yolks.

First eggs are really good for you, the whites balance out the cholesterol in them. In fact I saw something the other day that said if you want to live to 100 you should eat an egg a day. I scramble my egg whites with either 1 or 2 yolks depending on what I have going on that day. For example today I had 2 whole + 1 white, but usually I have 2 whites & 1 whole. I don't use the carton I just separate the yolk from fresh eggs. You can make scrambled eggs or omelets with egg whites.

Lol, that's funny you have such a hard time with eggs. I personally love them. Eating egg whites is definitely better than eating a regular egg, it cuts down on the calories quite a bit! The past couple of days I've just been eating 3 egg whites. If you like mustard, you can always use that with them, makes them look like regular eggs because they turn yellow. I personally love eggs w/ mustard.

Hope you find something that works. I don't like the eggs out of a carton though, thats just weird to me, lol.

If whole eggs work for you within your calories then I see no issue. If you would like to decrease your calories, or get more volume then I would use 1 whole egg and top it up with egg whites.

I eat eggs ALL the time, and they're actually really good for you. I don't like anything SLIMY in my eggs, either, so I always cook them hard.

I mix the 2 egg whites with 1 whole egg (like olmstea). Use the real eggs and just separate them -- I've heard that the "EggBeaters" stuff has all kind of processed junk in them. For an "Egg McMuffin" type meal, I cook up my 3 eggs (2 whole, 2 whites), use that Laughing Cow spreadable cheese on the toasted bread (only 35 calories a wedge, so you can use 2 if you want), and throw it all on the Pepperidge Farms "rounds" bread (looks like a flat english muffin, and they're whole wheat), only 100 cals.

I eat this for dinner at least 1x a week, actually, with a side of veggies, and it REALLY fills you up AND gives you excellent protein and fiber. YUM.

When doing egg whites, my favorite are the Crystal Farms 100% egg whites over any of the other brands. I've tried most national brands. Pepper them..and a good healthy coating of cheese makes them great. Fat free or full fat cheese, whatever you fancy.

Ooooooooooooh, good idea! Never thought of that (and I LOVE mustard)!

Ok I am going against the norm here. I buy free range eggs and never skip the yolks, there is so much nutritional value lost by throwing out the yolks. Yolks contain more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12 in the egg. In addition, the yolks contain ALL of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in the egg, as well as ALL of the essential fatty acids. Free range egg yolks are loaded with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. And the most important part to me is over all taste.

Eggs are great in moderation, so I usually go with 4 whites to one whole egg - getting the benefits without all the fat and calories.

I'm still waiting for the pro-egg or non-egg police to begin the heated debate that will shut down this thread ... lol ... in the meantime, I'll go back to eating my egg ... I mean NO! Eggs are bad! I mean they're good ... who am I talking to? *looking around paranoid* ... hmm ... GO AWAY!

I'm a huge fan of the egg substitutes in the cartons! usually they are on sale at my grocery for $1 or $2! Here is what I do.. I have the same visual-issue with egg whites!

I make muffins. I use a large muffin tin and fill it with veggies, green peppers, onion, spinach, tomato, etc. and sometimes a small amount of cooked potato, cooked meat like turkey sausage or turkey bacon and/or shredded cheese (depends on how many calories you want them to be).. I then fill the remainder of the muffin cup with eggs, usually mostly egg white and then a splash of the yellow egg beaters.. it makes a nice little compact breakfast!! I eat them often!

I buy regular eggs and separate them (it's cheaper). I have 8 egg whites every morning for breakfast. I always scramble them and then usualy add some Taco Bell hot sauce (it's my favorite of all the ones i've tried) or, occasionally, a slice of 2% cheese.

    My go-to breakfast is this:

    1 large egg, beaten
    2 tbsp egg white
    1/4 cup black beans, rinsed
    2 tbsp salsa.

I have it nearly every morning. The eggs end up being a reddish yellow because of the combo of salsa and the one yolk.

I must say I love egg whites. I buy the brand "egg whites" in a carton. I normally make veggie omelettes with it. Throw in some tomatoes, broccoli, onions and green pepers, lightly season with mrs. dash. It's really good that way. you can scramble it the same way without the veggies if you like.

I use to have the same feelings about egg whites but it really is good. even on a breakfast sandwich

I felt the same way when my PT told me to start eating egg whites for breakfast. The thought of plain egg whites just soundes too bland for me...But I gave them a try - the EggBeaters brand 100% pure egg whites. While they look freaky, they actually taste better than I ever thought they would.

I nuke them in a tupperware bowl about the same size as my sandwich thin or bagel thins. I use canadian bacon, 2% pepper jack cheese & the egg whites on the Thins for the perfect breakfast sandwich.
  • I make a big container of chopped veggies and put a 1/4 cup of them in a pan with a little spray oil, saute for a bit then 1/2 cup the all whites! On a piece of toast it is my breakfast every morning!!
  • You could always use a couple of drops of food coloring and make them whatever color you want! Not that I'd ever do that, but still.....

I did make my kids "red white and blue" eggs for the 4th of july one time using only egg whites and food coloring :) ... They ate it, sorta ... a bit odd to eat r/w/b eggs ;)

Egg Beaters Original has a yellow color and is super low in calories. Have you considered giving those a try?
