The little number turns red. And then you die.

Or not, I've been over in carbs plenty of days and nothing bad has happened and I've still lost weight. For most people calories are what matter most. So as long as you're hitting your calorie goals I wouldn't worry too much about the carbs, unless you have a medical reason to track them closely.

    Funny and correct. You win.

For me if I go over carbs it is much harder for me to lose the weight regardless if I am perfect in my calories, but then I have a medical reason to pay closer attention to my carbs (thanks so much PCOS).

People initially lose weight faster on low carb due to higher water weight losses, but at the one-year mark there are no statistical differences in weight loss on low carb compared to other diets.

Which would you rather do starve to death or lessin the carbs?

Depending on a variety of factors...lowering your carbs can drastically shrink your body fat. I could elaborate on stored glycogen, glucose, and metabolic effect if you'd like.

Who's starving? I certainly wasn't. And if you don't have a calorie deficit, you're not going to lose weight regardless of how many or how few carbs you eat.

I wasn't aware those were my only options.

I certainly don't starve eating under maintenance. That's how losing weight works...

I lose weight at the same pace with less carbs or more carbs...doesn't matter...as long as my calories are between my BMR and TDEE,

And carbs are tasty. I'll be having some stir-fry tonight with plenty of veggies and whole grain rice. Yum!

Long term studies show that low carb dieters are more successful AT FIRST but all diets end up with the same average losses long term because of reducing calories.

The extra carbs will creep out while you are sleeping and smack you in the middle of the night. Oh, and you'll wake up 10lbs heavier too.

    /sarcasm

You're fine. Just keep your total calorie intake under control.

If you consume more carbs at one time than your body needs for energy they get stored as fat. The same is true for consuming more fat than is necessary at one time.

    i.e.
If you consume more calories than your body needs for energy they get stored as fat. Doesn't matter if those calories came from carbs, fat, etc.

To play devil's advocate, if you are on standard MFP macro ratios & you are going over carbs then you will not be getting anywhere near the required amounts for protein & fat. Seeing as how these are more important macros (for retention of lean body mass & hormonal function) I would be prioritising these 2 first.

If you're talking about 'weight' loss in general than I would have to agree. However my primary goal is eradicating bodyfat reserves. For my goals, weight is irrelevant, composition is everything.

Moreover, clinical science has indicated with empirical evidence that achieving a low body-fat percentage is correlative to a moderate carbohydrate diet, while saturated fats and protein values remain high. A caloric surplus/deficiency will dictate whether one gains or loses body-weight obviously, but the macro-nutrient values (and exercise program) ultimately determine ratios of what specifically is lost or gained.

I disagree that going over on your carbs a lot will make you not lose weight. I didn't get fat in the first place by eating fruit, and that's what makes me go over on my carbs and sugar on most days. (not every day, but frequently) . I'm not going to stop eating bananas because they are high in carbs.
