Just wondering if anyone has ever done the HCG Diet? If so, what were your experiences/results? Did the weight completely come back?

Basically you spend a load of money on a hormone derived from pregnant pee which does absolutely jack ****. You lose weight because you are starving yourself more than the average anorexic.

google "hcg diet" and see the first unpaid link ... should be a washington post article from yesterday ...
that should tell you all you need to know.

short version if you dont' want to read.... FDA is calling the stuff illegal if you buy it without a prescription.

It's not generally viewed as being safe. The 'protocol' requires you to eat 500 calories per day (i.e. ballpark figure of what an anorexic person might eat, just for comparison) - the HCG does not actually 'do' anything, the fact that you're eating far below a healthy level is what makes the weight come off. And unfortunately since you lose weight so fast due to the low low calories, you lose a larger amount of muscle than you would on a more moderate plan like MFP recommends.

Also, the FDA just recently banned the 'homeopathic' HCG (the stuff you could buy without a prescription), mainly b/c the companies assert that the HCG does something to aid in weightloss when there is no credible research proving that it really does.

I see you only have 45 lbs to lose - I know right now that seems like a huge number, but give the MFP plan a try for a couple of months and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve without resorting to drastic measures. When I started counting calories I was afraid that my body wouldn't do what I wanted it to do and that I wouldn't be able to lose weight no matter how hard I tried, but look now - 29 lbs down. This really does work if you stick with it, and losing weight more slowly by implementing lifestyle changes rather than a fad diet will generally make you more likely to be able to keep the weight off once you get to your goal. You can do this the MFP way. I promise. Unless you have an unusual medical condition that requires special diets and supervision. You can friend request me if you need someone cheering you on.

Thanks so much you all I was researching but there are so many links that praise it and not many that give me the real info. I was looking at how much people lost but then how little they ate and thought how can the heart handle that kind of extreme?? I normally don't take anything and at times even forget my own vitamins but i have been wanting something to "jump start" my loss so i get some darn motivation. There are plenty of things that should make me want to lose but I just can't get started. MFP though is great I will just keep logging in ON A DAILY BASIS and track it all. I think since im also in my finals week at school I got a little desperate but this was all a wake-up call! Thanks you!!!

Well done for doing your research before jumping into something that can be really dangerous. We all know that when something seems to be too good to be true, it usually is... we just don't want to believe it!

Congratulations on your great decision not to do the HCG diet. I know people that tried it, and they felt terrible when they were eating only 500 calories a day. Then after they went through all those awful weeks of starvation on the HCG malnutrition eating plan, they gained the weight back.

Since the FDA ruled HCG diet products are now illegal, I hope Facebook and YouTube soon change their policy and remove any postings that encourage people to believe in that dangerous HCG fraud diet.
