So Sunday I competed in my first 5k run for charity. Really funny thing is, you had the option of a 3K walk,5K run or 10K run. So since it was a first, I opted for the 5K. We get there the day of to find out they didn't plan out a 5k route???? So they turned the "5k run" into the 3k run route times two...so..you guessed it, it was now a 6k run!hahahaha...So it thought, ok, I'll run 5k and just walk the last K....well..the funniest part is, the last k every could see you as you were finishing and there was my husband at the finish line ready to take photos so I COULDN'T walk the last k, HAD to run it....I was exhausted, took me 40 minutes..hahahaha....but I did it and didn't stop once!!! I felt GREAT. I have since signed up for another 5k AND doing a 10k in August.....I LOVE this running stuff...hahaha...Honestly, 3 months ago I couldn't run to bed and now I'm doing this........I LOVE IT!!!

Oh it is...it is sooo freeing!!! There is a 20k relay for YMCA that I am part of with a group from work...each person does 5k....That has me super pumped right now....when I signed up one of the girls is like, don't worry, its more for charity...we arent all in it to win...HA! they don't know me.....I have no intention of doing poorly...I started weight loss purely on a bet....my #1 motivator is competition..I can't believe I didnt get into it sooner...it's RIGHT up my alley... I suck of course, but, makes me TRY harder!!! I love it!

Congrats-- I did my first one on 4/19-- it is addictive--

If somebody told me a couple of years ago that it would be in my blood, I'd have had 'em committed.

    CONGRATULATIONS Chulie!!!

You have endurance, which is not something everyone has. I don't know where you live, but I would highly recommend you look for some Sprint Trialthlons (if you swim and bike, of course). I started with 5k... and I am a horrible run/jog/walker.... but I cycle and swim.

I began doing sprint Tri's last year (just did my last one / first on eof the new year this past sunday) and I love it. Sprint Tri's are a fraction of normal length. My last one was a short 300meter swim, 11.5 mile bike ride and 2mile run.

Best of luck to all of your future runs!!!!

You have helped inspire me....I set a goal to be able to run a 5k before I was 40...well I will be 38 in July and I've decided that I want to do it before this year ends...I've found a Race for the Cure in Oct that I am targeting - I've printed off the couch to 5k program and I am starting today....HERE I GO>>>>>>>

Congrats on the 6K and good luck on the future 10K. I'm running my first 10K this weekend, and am incredibly excited about it. I began running with the couch to 5K last August and barely ran at all over the winter. When it got warm enough, I would run 2 or 3 miles at a time until I was comfortable with the distance. Then, I started to run a long run on the weekends at 30 minutes and upped it ten minutes each week. My miles are slower than ten minutes, so I was increasing distance less than a mile at a time. There have been weeks where I couldn't make it, but I would try again the next week. Today, I got out and ran 8 miles for the first time ever!

September is a long way off and plenty of time to get comfortable with 3 mile runs. Once you can run three miles without being completely exhausted, you'll be able to build up your mileage.

    Good luck and happy running!
