Hives/bumps/histamine reaction after running?

I used to run, and never had a problem with this. But today I just ran for 30 minutes out of the blue (I usually do the elliptical) and as soon as I was done I felt incredibly itchy and I had these bumps/welts of different sizes all over my body, kind of like mosquito bites. I also had that weird thing where the roof of my mouth and nasal passages got all itchy.
I happened to have an antihistamine with me and took some immediately. It helped. Nasal passages are still a little itchy. The bumps have gone down, but are still there.
Anyone else have a problem with this. Could it be related to the running, or do you think it's just a coincidence? Or is it more likely due to being hot and sweaty?

Was it cold outside? I found that when I walk around outside and got sweaty, I'd get really itchy and uncomfortable. Sorry I'm not more help to you!0

It's probably a coincidence, but I would give the doc a call. That reaction is pretty severe, and I'd hate for you to just ignore it and have a worse reaction next time. Whatever you were reacting to, you need to let the doctor know what happened in case he wants you to be tested or carry medication with you.

Ah, shoot! That second article is disheartening! I had a really bad case of hives once and my throat started closing up and i passed out! But this time it was nowhere near that severe... but good to know to keep an eye out. And like someone else said, probably a good idea to check with my doctor.0 -
This happens to me everytime I exercise also. Thought I was the only one. It also happens when I take a really hot shower, get in a hot car during the summertime, sit in front of the heat too long, or even standing outside in the hot sun too long. I just keep an antihistamine and heartburn pill on me at all times. The heartburn pill stops the reaction and the antihistamine helps with the itching. But I would love for some type of cure. I can not stand the bumps, itching, redness, swelling, and sometimes I feel short of breath. Let me know what the doc tells you.0

Hives absolutely suck. I've been battling hives for the best part of my life and just a year ago it started getting worse. I was allergic to my sweat so whenever I exercised I knew that I'd break-out real soon. It got so bad that I would even break-out if I was stressed of if I didn't get enough sleep at night. It was ridiculous. I was forced to find alternative cures.
This is when I came about a new study that indicated that hives (and a host of other skin diseases) was actually not caused by allergens but rather an over-active immune system that was out of whack. The way to relieve hives was to re-align and re-balance the immune system so that it fought proper enemies and not stupid things like peanuts or spearmint.
Since getting treatment to get my immune system back in-line my hives break-outs have reduced substantially and I'm feeling great! If you're interested in my story do head over to DamnHives.com

I have this problem too. It gets really bad when I take a shower immediately after finishing my workout. I hate it. I thought for a long time it was the laundry detergent. I was tested for all of those kinds of allergies, and I don't have them. I wish there was more that could be done.0

Huh, now this is very interesting, because my immune system is actually under-active due to a low white blood cell count caused by chemo and radiation therapy.... hmmmmm. But I wonder if that has something to do with it... I will definitely check out your website. Thanks!0 -
I get them often. Usually, when it's inside my mouth, though, it's a reaction to something I've consumed.0
