Okay so here is the deal. My school requires an 81.5% to pass nursing courses. I just got an 81.2%. This puts me back a whole year. Do any of you know of an online AA program worth looking into? I want so badly to graduate in may and continue for my BA, but after that test I'm feeling pretty bad. One more question woulda passed me . . . ,

Nursing is so darn competitive right now there is probably no decent online fix, but I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am. I am a 40-year-old junior 1 in a BSN program and it is SO TOUGH. So I know that an 81.2 is a pretty big accomplishment and I am so sorry it wasn't enough. I am studying for my last final tonight (pharm, in between ADD forays into the internet). It stinks to lose a year (why a year and not a semester, BTW?) in the process, but don't waste a bunch of money on some sketchy program that isn't going to get you into a decent BSN program or a good job. Take care.

You should be able to do a retake, especially with a grade like that. Also, I agree with the above, you should be put back a whole year!! what tha heck!!

I would go talk to your professors and the head of the department. Maybe you can work something out!

Agreed love. It's a shame that you are so close. Does the prof know your history of test anxiety? I notice someone mentioned on your profile that you should ask to prove that you are simply a poor test taker rather than not actually knowing the information by having her ask you some or even all of the questions you missed. I think that's a great idea. Where there's a will, there's a way and with being only .3% away from a passing grade, hell I'd go in and negotiate for you as well! You deserve this! You know your stuff ! xoxo

I agree with all the above. I would plead my case...have all your information...grades from all classes, participation, goals for the future. Be professional and upfront!

I think you are SOL, at times it is a buyers market. Meaning that the schools can pick an choose, set scores limits, to open or close the amount of student entering. I do think you should be able to 'ask' to retake the test, but again they may have enough students and just say sorry for your bad luck, you did not meet the standard.

good luck, such is life. You just keep moving forward.

Nursing is a professional profession. Make an apt with your head of the dept, be professional and plead your case. You may get another shot or you may not but you wont know unless you try. Ive been a RN for 13yrs, with certification in my specialty, but there is no way I would retake nursing classes now. And it is a buyers market out there now. Not a lot of jobs to go round. Wish you much luck.

Okay so I talked to my instructor and deen. Guess what? I went throw my tests and found a few problems she marked Erin and they corrected them. Now I'm not 0.3% away im 0.2% away. Good deal huh. Well I'm registering for other BA classes they're allowing me to take . . . This is BULL. Grr. Maybe I'll lose some weight. Oh wait, I will have to drive and hour and a half to, then from each day. Oh yay!

I find it really hard to believe that's legal or realistic. I've NEVER heard of a school (at any level) where a B was considered not passing. I'd find out if the entire college functions this way or not. If not, then I'd say speak to the registrar or apply for a grievance. I know that nursing is competitive, but so are a many other programs.....once you're IN, I can't imagine they can set that sort of standard. An 81. whatever is a passing grade anywhere.
  • I've been a LPN for over 10 years now. I don't think I'll go back for my RN but wishing you luck. You look like Simone from Epica by the way.
  • When I was a nursing student, I failed second semester by one test question like you. I made up I mind that I would change my studies to become a social worker. One day I was shopping and ran into my clinical intructor. I told her my news about not passing and before I could tell her that I wasn't going to apply she grabbed me, hugged me and told me that next semester I will be her star student. To get back into the program I had to write the dean, tell her what I did wrong and how I was going to improve. I wrote to the dean that day and was accepted back in the program. That was 10 years ago and last September I finished the BSN program. That extra semester really helped me. So hang in there and next semester you will know more than the other students. Good luck to you and you will be the next star student.

I'm so sorry girl! I can't believe they require that kind of grade. I went to a very competitive and tough nursing program and they didn't require that high of a GPA either. All I know is that if you stick with it and complete the program, even with a setback, it will be worth it. Good luck!

Well I wanted to quote a few ppl but here us where I am. I too have to write a letter, why I failed, how I plan to improve myself, and what motivates me. Yes the second semester should help, but I'm still sour about it. I think taking generals, taking a semester off from "nursing" classes and then diving back in is my only option.

Nurseygirl66- The program requires an 82%, but an 81.5% rounds up. It's a pain but the almost perfect nclex pass rate is probably worth it. Going to a private school that charges an arm and a leg blows, but that's life . . . Small class sizes and a personal environment.

I can only hope I meet a few new people and have a successful semester. I just hate that I have to buy more books, you should see my library!

There are a lot of plus one programs. Really you skills wouldn't expand much, but with experience it would be easy to move up. Just depends on cost of school to increase in income ratio.

Simone. . . Thank you? I guess that's one I've not heard, but I'll take it. Kinda bias, but I love red!
