I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it.

Have just done my first session and it wasn't as bad as I thought - maybe i wasn't working hard enough - I've seen suggestions that it's logged as circuit training??? But really 170 cals for 20 mins - surely that's too high. I don't have HRM so can't check.

Thoughts?

Its hard to say. I would really invest in a HRM. You can get some cheap ones. I am lost without mine. I found that MFP logs cals for me that are much different than what my HRM says. But I would maybe go with aerobics?

That calorie burn seems about right if you're really getting a sweat on. When I did 30DS with my HRM I was burning between 200 and 300, depending on the level and how hard I was working.

Yup, according to my HRM, I burned 230cals doing Level 2 last night

I've done level 1 and 2 so far and my HRM always give me a range of 160-195 depending on how hard I push myself. And that is the calorie burn from warm up to the end of the last circuit (~25mins) I don't include the cool down. It's bound to be a bit different for everyone because there is the factor of weight too. The more you weigh, the more you will burn off. I also found it hard to believe initially when I didn't use my HRM. But turns out the general circuit training on MFP was pretty accurate.

when i used my HRM and did 30ds i would burn anywhere from 190-285 calories depending on how hard i pushed myself :)
before i got the HRM i logged it as circuit training, then i just added my own entry with the HRM numbers
