Does skiing/snowboarding really burn as many calories as people say?!? I know you have to take into account the time you spend on the lifts etc, but even then. It still seems like it would be way too high/ I've never paid attention to my heart rate or muscles when I'm snowboarding but I don't remember feeling like it was a particularly good workout. I'm going for 2 weeks on monday and would like to know. Also, if I wore my HRM could I get an accurate calorie burn?

It seems that wearing a HRM would be the most accurate way to answer all of the above questions. Personally, I know when I've had a tough day snowboarding because my muscles ache and I feel like I've been working out all day. But I've never attempted to estimate the calorie burn.

Since you're spending a good time of your day on the slopes and/or carrying stuff while walking in the snow, I think you can add at least 500 cals to your day and that's an absolute minimum.
