Is a wii worth the money to get for the fitness things? Also can a 4 year old play it?

I love my Wii and recently started doing Zumba on it which was so fun and a GREAT BURN! Plus so many options for other fitness games too. I think there are lots of games a 4 year old could play as well. Right now I am contemplating the X-Box 360 with kinect because I love the idea that you are the controller.....but jury is still out on that one.....I think the wii would definitely be better for the 4 year old.

In my opinion, yes to both questions. I bought it because it was a game system that you didnt just sit around & play. I don't have the wii fit, but I use the wii sports, Just Dance 2 & 3, and Golds Gym dance workout all the time for cardio

i think it's a good way to at least get started. if it motivates you, then go for it! i love mine! i got other fittness 'games' to go with it, such as the Sports Active (which i do every day) - you don't even need to get the wii fitness balance board to use it. it's great for me in the winter when it's too cold to go outside. a 4 year old could do some of the things i'm sure. a lot of it's pretty basic.
  • I have both a Wii (with Wii Fitness plus)....and and xbox 360 with Kinect . Wii is good to an extent....and it is fairly kid friendly (I have a 4 year old as well). I must say though, that after getting the Kinect for my xbox 360, my daughter prefers playing games on that over the Wii...since there are no controllers and she can just use her hands....back to the main point though lol....there is a "The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout" for the xbox kinect that is a very good "game"...keeps you motivated and makes it seem fun (most of the time haha). There is also a version of that game for the Wii, however, it's not as good (in my opinion of course). The downside to the kinect....the overall investment is much more...as you have to have the xbox AND the kinect sensor...along with whatever games you want....they do have bundles that include both things, plus a game or two, for a decent price. The Wii, can be picked up relatively cheap...as there is a new version of the console coming out soon...so that's also a plus for that. There are also other kinect games..including zumba, jillian Anderson workout game, fitness evolved...things like that. There are even other games such as Dance Central, Kinect sports, etc, which are more game based, but still a work out. There are pros and cons either way you cut it...so it really just comes down to preference :) Good luck with your decision.:smile:

OK So here is (probably a dumb) question, but what is the difference in watching a zumba dvd and doing Zumba on the wii?

I recently got the Zumba Wii and is having a blast. The difference from the video? I don't think there is much but that Wii can keep track of your movements (not as good as kinect xbox360) thus stopping you from cheating. It gives you a 5 star rating. 5 stars mean you worked out really well and no stars means you didn't move at all.

I'd say it depends on your financial situation and if have another form of exercise that you do regularly and enjoy. If you are struggling financially and have other forms of exercise that you're really enjoying and doing regularly then it might not be the best for you.

If you're not struggling financially and/or don't have an exercise program that you're enjoying I say go for it. I love my Wii! It's nice to burn cals and have fun at the same time. It helps the workouts go by faster too.
