most people use the word macros to talk of their fats, carbs, proteins...
some seem to think its a truck..if it fits in the truck they will eat it0 -
I think in this context they mean macro nutrients, which, as Dave said, are fat, protein, and carbs. There are also micronutriens (i.e. vitamins, minerals).
Alternatively they could mean sets of instructions in computer programming--while useful, I don't think these would be very filling.0 -
Macros = fat, protien, carbs
Micros = vitamins, iron, fiber, etc.
I kind of personally follow the "If it fits in my Macros and calories" philosophy. Basically I have a protein and fat minimum (1 gram of protein per every pound of lean body mass, and 0.3 grams of fat per every pound of total body mass). In general as long as I hit those minimums and stay under my calories I am happy. I do however take a multi-vitamin and try to eat a good amount of fruit, veggies, and whole foods but I have my share of "junk".0 -

Right i seeeeee!!
thanks for that! i kind of dont pay much attention to those, i try to eat a fairly balanced diet, meat, carbs, veg, fruit, few treats etc, and stay around about my calorie allowance, some weeks its bang on allowance, some weeks i hover above the allowance, depending on how that week is panning out in my life etc.
should i be paying more attention to getting the right balance of macros/micros etc?
AND i know that the carbs/protein etc is visable at the bottom of your diary but how do you know if your getting your micros right??

Yes, your macros help your body choose which weight to lose. Eating a diet high in protein is good for lean muscle mass preservation while on a caloric deficit. MFP typically chooses figures withing the RDA guidelines for protein consumption, but most experts agree that it's a very good idea to try to eat higher protein while dieting for numerous reasons that I won't get into at this time.0 -
You can change what shows up on the bottom of your diary. I just have my macros and fiber. You can also run reports to see how you are doing on micros. But really I don't pay much attention to my micros.... I probably should but I don't.0
