Don't want to eat it- feeling guilty!

I've been here for 1 weeks and a few days and have never gone over my calories (2,040 is what MFP "allows" but I shoot for around 1,400ish because of meds i'm on, It's usually hard to even eat at all) and in fact I've been UNDER 1,200 at least 4-5 of the days.
Tonight I was thinking of blowing my calories just to "make up" for being under so much but I can't bring myself to do it!
We've been busy moving most of the day and so I was "bad" and had a Sonic drive through jr burger. Now my brain is telling me I've had enough junk today (though the fast food was my only "junk"), and that I shouldn't reach for that popcorn that I want so bad.
I don't junk out regularly. always within/under calories...WHY THE GUILT?!
UGH!

Guilt's normal. Don't eat the popcorn. Sonic isn't the healthiest choice and continuing to eat unhealthy afterwards is just bad. You shouldn't have days to "make up" for eating right.0

Sounds like you're developing an unhealthy relationship with food. Guilt should be reserved for when you cause harm, not for when you feed yourself.
Why do your meds require you to only eat 1400 calories a day? This sounds especially bad if your recommendation is 2040...you are creating a HUGE caloric deficit.0 -

Honey, I don't mean to offend, but guilt for eating is not normal. Given that you admit to having an ED, you probably aren't the best person to offer advice on another person's relationship with food. Good luck to you in your recovery.0 -
I have to disagree here. Eating under your calories isn't necessarily "eating right" and chances are a jr. burger probably doesn't even have a lot of calories in it. Also, popcorn ins't terrible for you either. I'd say go for the popcorn and try to enjoy it. You don't have to eat back all of your missed calories, but a little popcorn is fine!Guilt's normal. I'm on a special diet per my drs orders. I'm also on a few meds that "loss of appetite" is a common symptom. Dr suggested I eat at least 1300-1500cals/day so i shoot for in the middle. sometimes i dont make it, and im under.Guilt's normal. Don't eat the popcorn. to the one saying i was trying to "make up for eating healthy"...that isnt what i said at all. if you read the post, i said i was trying to "make up" for all the days i was too far under. and im sure one small sonic burger isnt going to kill me. its not the worst thing in the world, and it isnt as if i completely junked out as many other members of MFP do on their "cheat days".0 -

and for the record, i am also closely monitored by my doctor. so no, i do not have a problem.0 -

When I was said about making up for being healthy, I was assuming you were saying you made healthy choices and that I personally think that it is just best to be consistently healthy. I never said it was going to "kill you."0 -
Well if it's doctor's orders, I can't argue with that.
Just try not to beat yourself up by eating something "not-so-healthy" once in a while. :flowerforyou:0 -
Eat popcorn. Popcorn is an awesome, healthy snack.0

guilt is normal, we all go through those stages.. don't beat yourself up.0

Sorry but after reading "2. I want people to be concerned with how thin I am. " (which is on your profile), while I too dont mean to offend, I don't think you need to be giving ME advice on my food choices.0 -
Nothing wrong with popcorn, especially air popped. I have popcorn every single night.
The burger probably didn't break your day at all.0 -

I understand. I actually do know what healthy food is, and what a healthy diet looks like though. but I do understand your reply. Farewell then, good luck on your weight loss journey.

from my experience and understanding, 1200 calories is the lowest most people can go without shocking your body into "starvation", or "survival" mode. your body will try really hard to hold onto every calorie it can at that point (something about cortisol and a few other things your body does). im learning more every day about having a healthy relationship with food and not to feel guilty for eating and to not under-eat. ive been working with a doctor, nurse practioner, excersize specialist and nutritionist (thru a weight management program). i am 5'5" and was maintaining 282lbs on 800-1000 calories most days. I know it doesnt sound possible, and I've had a few ignorant medical professionals tell me it wasn't possible and that i was lying. which doesnt make a lot of sense since it was me seeking help. any way, here i was severly obese to say the least and felt like there was nothing i could do about it. so my point is, dont feel guilty for eating a cheeseburger (and if you love them plan the calories into your day
. dont make up for calories one day to the next (unless your doctor thinks its a good idea?) every day is a new day and planning out food is the best way i've found to feel good about my choices and stay within my calories. as far as the popcorn goes, itms one of the healthiest snacks there is. and low in calories unless you have the movie theater butter one.. in which case can also be planned into calories. deciding what to eat and how much before it happens is how i maintain a low-guilt relationship with what goes into my mouth.
hope i've helped! good luck on your journey! 0 -
YOU asked for advice. If you don't want advice from all members on here, then maybe you should head it with "only give me advice if you're a trained professional or absolutely perfect when it comes to your health." Sorry, but she was trying to help you and I think you're coming off as being a little rude.Guilt's normal. Don't eat the popcorn. Hi sweetie! I just wanted to sound off here. You have nothing to feel guilty about. And don't worry about whether you should or shouldn't be feeling guilty. That adds another complex layer to our already complex relationship with food.
Anyway... like others have said, popcorn is a relatively healthy food unless it is covered in butter and salt. So enjoy to your heart's content. And even if it is covered in butter and salt, we have to confront our cravings with moderation and self-control. Otherwise, we might end up binging on those cravings.0
